Češi začali skvěle, dokázali favorita zatlačit servisem, poradili si i s polským blokem a když začal Černý za koncovou čarou rozdávat esa, bylo z toho nadějné vedení 19:10. Mladí reprezentanti hráli sebevědomě a s obrovskou chutí, nutili soupeře k chybám a první dějství ovládli nečekaně rychle za devatenáct minut.
Po změně stran ale Poláci dokázali přitvrdit ve hře i zpřesnit příjem. V útoku se probudil talentovaný Gajek, vedle něj se chytil střídající Kiedos a Češi měli potíže. Do koncovky druhého setu šli s pětibodovým mankem. O podání i dobrou hru na síti se opírající soupeř už neumožnil jeho smazání.
Pokračování zápasu nabízelo přetahovanou o každý míč, teprve při Černého podání se povedl jednadvacítce trhák ve skóre a do koncovky třetí části šla za stavu 21:18. V důležitých okamžicích zaúřadoval univerzál Brichta, Češi si pomohli také blokem a proměnili druhý setbol.
Nabuzení reprezentanti si pak dovolili riskovat, při servisu kapitána Pastrňáka se dostali do vedení 20:17. Když se potom ale za koncovou čáru postavil polský lídr Gajek, soupeře vrátil do hry a český trhák se rozplynul. Čtvrtá sada dospěla do nesmírně dramatické koncovky.
Když Pastrňák za stavu 23:23 vytloukl polský blok, zařídil mečbol, jenže soupeř ho stejným způsobem odvrátil. Potom Polákům nevyšly tři setboly a eso Vítámváse přineslo znovu český mečbol. Ani to ještě nestačilo, až třetí český pokus ukončit zápas zařídila Brichtova smeč.
