There are fewer than three days of the transfer window left, and Leeds United still have business to do.
Ten new additions have been made since their promotion back to the Premier League at the end of last season, with an outlay of over £100million in transfer fees, but manager Daniel Farke wants more done before the deadline at 7pm UK time on Monday, September 1.
Since the arrival of Noah Okafor on August 21, Farke has intimated that one or two further reinforcements across his attacking positions would be beneficial. There is still time for that to be achieved, but the final outcome will only be clear in the daylight of Tuesday morning.
As it stands, Farke has Daniel James, Brenden Aaronson, Okafor, Jack Harrison and Wilfried Gnonto as wide options, with Largie Ramazani having gone on loan to Spanish side Valencia. The German can call upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha as strikers, with teenager Harry Gray in reserve if necessary.
Facundo Buonanotte of Brighton & Hove Albion was the player Leeds wanted. Talks with the 20-year-old Argentinian accelerated on Thursday, and the club were hopeful of bringing him in on loan before the window closed. A flight was arranged and a medical booked.
However, on Thursday evening, when it became clear to Chelsea that they were not going to be signing Tottenham Hotspur-bound RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons, they swooped for Buonanotte instead. He never got on the plane.
