Lee Corso’s final “College GameDay” was a ratings bonanza for ESPN.
The network said Sunday that Corso’s last show before retirement had an average audience of 3.5 million viewers and was the most-watched “GameDay” ever. Over 5 million tuned in for the final 15 minutes as Corso made the final prediction of his ESPN career. He picked Ohio State and put on the Brutus the Buckeye mascot head, just like he did in 1996 when he made his first prediction while wearing a mascot head.

Corso, 90, announced that he would be retiring from ESPN in April. He joined ESPN in 1987 and has worked “GameDay” alongside analyst Kirk Herbstreit since the show became a road show in 1993.
The pregame show was in Columbus for the Buckeyes’ 14-7 win over Texas on Saturday. With the “GameDay” set on the field, Corso made his final pick and got a massive ovation from the over 100,000 fans in attendance at Ohio Stadium.
Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” even showed Corso’s final pick out of respect to the longtime college football analyst.

Before working at ESPN, Corso coached at Indiana, Louisville and Northern Illinois. He also played football at Florida State and was roommates with Burt Reynolds when they both played for the Seminoles.
In a bit of serendipity, all of the teams Corso has been associated with won in Week 1. Florida State upset No. 8 Alabama as a 14-point underdog and Indiana, Louisville and Northern Illinois all scored victories. Corso was the only member of the “GameDay” crew to pick the Seminoles on Saturday morning.
