By halftime, the Horned Frogs had seized control of the game, holding a 17-7 lead while outgaining North Carolina 322-103 in total yard despite a strong opening drive for the Tar Heels.
Then defensive pressure compounded UNC’s difficulties, with Horned Frogs defender Devean Deal returning a fumble 31 yards for a touchdown after sacking quarterback Gio Lopez.
For Money Mayweather, it was a perfect day at the office as the former professional boxer whose net worth is estimated at $1.2 billion, staked $23,000 on TCU running out winners for a return of $43,909, including $20,909 in profit.
Backed at -150, the bet was placed at the Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on the TCU to lead at half-time, and posting the betting slip on Instagram, Floyd wrote, “Even though it’s Labor Day, I’m still working.”
For this matchup, Mayweather saw an opportunity that would turn Belichick‘s misfortune into his own gain and that’s exactly how it played out as the 48-14 defeat spells a return to the drawing board for the veteran coach.
The emphatic win for TCU came with added meaning as after suffering a blowout loss to Georgia in the 2022 national championship, this was then followed up by opening the 2023 season with a disappointing loss to Colorado.
So the Horned Frogs were determined to reset their trajectory and their head coach, Sonny Dykes, underlined the motivation his players carried into the contest with much of the pre-game stories dominated by Belichick.
“I think we all felt a little disrespected, maybe, coming in,” Dykes said during the ESPN broadcast. “There was a lot of conversation.
“And none of it was about us. I think we all were highly motivated. Our players were certainly excited to play.”
The Tar Heels showed initial promise with an opening touchdown drive of 83 yards, but momentum vanished quickly as turnovers, defensive lapses, and lack of rhythm on offense compounded their problems.
Belichick’s team never recovered, and the experience left him confronting both the scoreboard and the expectations that come with his reputation.

The Tar Heels will next be in action on Saturday, September 6 at the Jerry Richardson Stadium as they take on the Charlotte 49ers in an in-state rival for the veteran football coach.
