No era una comparecencia sencilla la del segundo capitán del equipo tras la derrota del pasado sábado ante el derbi por 5-2, pero el uruguayo quiso dar la cara y hablar del sentir del vestuario en la previa del segundo duelo de esta Liga de Campeones que empezó con victoria por 2-1 ante el Marsella.
La resaca del derbi
“Fueron dos días muy duros, a nivel futbolístico muy jodidos. Ha sido un golpe muy duro, pero charlamos mucho. Desde que estoy en el Madrid, pocas veces nos juntamos tanto para hablar. Hablamos mucho de la actitud dentro del campo y de tener notición de lo que nos jugábamos. Con el entrenador y cuerpo técnico también tuvimos muchas charlas”
El bajón tras la derrota
“Llevamos muchos partidos, pero poco tiempo con el nuevo entrenador. Nosotros tenemos que dar lo mejor de cada uno. Hemos tenido dos derrotas con Xabi y fueron duras, contra el PSG y la del otro día. Es parte del fútbol, pero como jugador del Madrid tenemos que intentar que eso no pase. Tenemos que salir de otra forma y agruparnos fuera y dentro”.

“No nací para jugar de lateral, no crecí aprendiendo de jugar de lateral y cuando jugué ahí me sentí orgulloso de haberlo hecho bien. Siempre tuve la duda de si jugué bien de manera espontánea… Jugando ahí me sentí cómodo. Me tocó jugar de extremo y ganamos una Champions, me tocó jugar en banda y de medio y ganamos una Champions… No me siento cómodo de lateral porque no nací en esa posición y me cuestan algunas cosas como cerrar detrás del defensa. Yo toda mi vida jugué en el centro del campo y tuve compañeros que me dieron muchos consejos, pero es verdad que de lateral jugué bien y siempre he dejado claro que yo estoy para lo que diga el entrenador”.
“Jamás me he negado a jugar de lateral”
“Al entrenador siempre le he dejado claro que estoy disponible para lo que necesite, nunca me he negado a jugar de lateral o de otra posición. Siempre que uno es titular la abraza como si fuera lo único. Es raro que salga esto de mí cuando siempre he dicho que estoy disponible para jugar de lo que sea. Pueden preguntar a mis compañeros y al entrenador, nunca me he negado a jugar en ningún sitio y siempre voy a morir por mis compañeros y por el Real Madrid”
La actitud en el derbi
“Son cosas que no tienen que ocurrir en el Real Madrid. Hay que motivarse con cualquier partido del año, pero en un derbi es primordial. La actitud no se negocia y eso es lo primero. Se pueden fallar en muchas cosas, en pases, en defender mal, en goles, pero la actitud no se negocia. En los primeros minutos demostramos otra actitud, como si el empate ya nos sirviera o como si estuviéramos jugando ya el partido como campeones. Como uno de los líderes ya digo que vamos a reagruparnos”.
