Paige Bueckers went straight from the UConn Huskies to the Dallas Wings and showed off her talent in the league and on the team. So much so that she ended her first year on a high note, after being officially named Rookie of the Year.
Although Chris Koclanes’ team finished in last place (10-34) and did not qualify for the playoffs, the 23-year-old point guard had nothing but praise for the team.

Bueckers makes no secret of her affection for Dallas
Paige made a big leap when she became one of only 10 rookies to start in the All-Star Game, reached her scoring high with 44 points, and averaged 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.6 steals in 36 games.
Now in the offseason and speaking to Dallas Hoops Journal during the DICK’S House of Sport grand opening in North Dallas, the rookie expressed her gratitude to her teammates, coaching staff, and Wings fans:
“Just starting off not really knowing anybody,” Paige said. “Then building a community of friends and family-people who I might not call family, but who I hang out with every single day, go to war with, go to work with,” she explained.
The truth is that the Wings’ star was not only referring to the network she created based on basketball and sports, but also to the community she is creating in Dallas. After spending time in Connecticut and Minnesota, Paige described Texas as “home” and said she remains an active fan of other local sports:
“I love going to sporting events-Stars games, Cowboys games, Mavericks, of course, Trinity FC,” she explained. “Every single team, I want to get out and support and just be one here. This is home base, and I love it here.”
She also highlighted the importance of the support received from fans, not only in the WNBA but in all sports, to continue revitalizing the city and thus achieve greater reach:
“It just provides a way for you to connect with the community and connect with the people that support you throughout the entire season,” Bueckers said. “I want to do that for the entirety of how long I’m here-just be one with the people and embrace being in Dallas.“
While the Wings will have to make some adjustments for the 2026 season, Paige is willing to continue growing in and for the team and remain committed to it.
