Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann (38) hatte mit Blick auf die beiden kommenden Länderspiele in der WM-Qualifikation gegen Luxemburg (10.10.) und in Nordirland (13.10.) bereits über „Schlotti“ gesagt: „Der ist definitiv dabei. Hat er auch wieder verdient. Er gibt uns einen herausragend guten Spielaufbau, einen super Siegeswillen. Endlich mal wieder einen linken Fuß hinten, der uns guttut, den wir auch brauchen, unabhängig von der Ordnung und der Anlaufsituation vom Gegner.“

Der Plan des BVB: Schlotterbeck soll seinen Vertrag zeitnah bis 2030 verlängern. Dortmund ist bereit, sein Gehalt von rund sechs Millionen Euro pro Saison auf bis zu zehn anzuheben, im Verein wird er zudem als heißester Anwärter auf das Kapitänsamt 2026 gehandelt. Der Spieler hat aufgrund seiner Leistungen und seines Standings allerdings eine extrem starke Verhandlungsposition, die er nun nutzen will.
Jetzt herrscht im Vertrags-Poker zwischen Dortmund und Schlotterbeck erstmal Stillstand.
