El Oviedo remontó un partido que parecía perdido y lo hizo superando sus propios miedos ante un Valencia que entró muy bien al partido, se adelantó en el minuto cuatro y pudo anotar el 2-0 en el 75. Pero Aarón Escandell detuvo la ejecución de Danjuma cuando parecía que iba a chutar Pepelu. El equipo asturiano, que nunca le perdió la cara al encuentro, entendió que podía sacar un punto, pero quizá nunca esperó los tres. Ilic, tras un córner, y Rondón, en un mano a mano con fortuna, remontaron en poco más de un minuto para lograr la primera victoria fuera de casa y tres puntos de oro en su lucha.
Y eso que el Valencia empezó dominando y marcó un golazo en el minuto cuatro. Danjuma convirtió un gran centro de Rioja en una contundente volea que apenas alcanzó a seguir con la mirada Aarón Escandell. El tanto inauguró una fase de incertidumbre en las filas asturianas, que apenas eran capaces de salir de su campo.
La presencia de André Almeida ayudaba a superar la presión que el Oviedo trataba de ejercer sobre Guerra y Santamaría. Y con el balón controlado, el equipo blanquinegro seguía buscando la portería contraria por las bandas. Y en el 75’ el VAR avisó de un penalti de Reina a Diakhaby, por un codazo -más golpe que agresión- en un saque de esquina. Ahí se podría haber acabado el partido. Pepelu, especialista del Valencia desde los once metros, cedió la ejecución de la pena máxima a Danjuma. Aarón Escandell despejó el chut y el Oviedo entendió que podía llevarse algo de Mestalla. Y vaya que lo consiguió. Con mucho sufrimiento. Pero Ilic, a la salida de un córner, y Rondón, tras un disparo que rebotó en Tárrega, lograron algo que parecía imposible.
