Is this the end of Tyreek Hill’s NFL career? The injury suffered by the man known as “The Cheetah” during Monday Night Football against the New York Jets has sent shockwaves through the league and ignited speculation about the future of the Miami Dolphins star.
Early in the second half of the Week 5 matchup, Hill caught a pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa along the left sideline. Jets’ defensive back Malachi Moore closed in for the tackle, but in doing so, twisted Hill’s leg in a gruesome motion.
The initial diagnosis was a dislocated knee. However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter later confirmed that Hill had also torn multiple ligaments, including his ACL. Now, medical experts like Dr. Jesse Morse believe this could mark the end of Hill’s playing days.
What experts are saying about Hill’s injury
On Tuesday morning, Hill announced he was preparing for surgery. While neither he nor the team has released full details, Dr. Morse predicted the receiver will miss not only the remainder of this season but potentially all of next year as well.
“At minimum, this is season-ending,” Morse said in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter). “But remember, Tyreek will be 32 in March. This is at least a 15-month recovery. That knocks him out not only for all of 2025, but possibly 2026 too.”
Beyond the lengthy recovery, Morse warned of long-term consequences. “I don’t know how many teams will be eager to sign Tyreek at 34 or 35, coming off a left knee dislocation and ACL tear at that age,” he added.
Hill was already struggling this season
Speed and agility have always defined Hill’s game-but this injury could severely impact his trademark explosiveness. “Think about how this affects his play,” Morse said. “He’s shifty, elusive, fast. It’s much harder to translate that energy with these specific knee injuries.”
The Dolphins’ star wasn’t having a standout season before the injury. At the time, he had just 21 receptions for 256 yards and one touchdown. Even if he makes a full recovery, his effectiveness may be compromised-and a Cheetah without speed may no longer have a place in the NFL.
