Ein ganz wichtiger Sieg gegen den Pokalsieger von 2023 im SNP Dome in Heidelberg — zumal Ex-Trainer Maik Machulla der Gegner ist.
[–>Machulla stand von 2012 bis zum Frühling 2023 als Spieler, Co-Trainer und Chefcoach in den Diensten der Flensburger, auf die er nun erstmals seit seiner Entlassung als Gegner trifft. Als Trainer führte er den Club zu zwei Meisterschaften (2018 und 2019), als Spieler gewann er mit den Norddeutschen die Champions League (2014) und den DHB-Pokal (2015).
Vor dem Spiel sagte Machulla: „Es ist kein Geheimnis, dass das ein besonderes Spiel für mich ist. Das wird emotional. Ich treffe viele alte Weggefährten, kenne viele Spieler auch sehr, sehr gut und habe nach wie vor noch zu vielen einen sehr guten Draht.“
