Among the many expressions of grief and sorrow surrounding the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall on October 1, 2025, at the age of 91, supermodel Gisele Bündchen expressed her own mourning.
Bündchen shared her tribute in an Instagram post, writing:
“What a privilege it was to have met such an extraordinary woman. Jane Goodall’s passion for animals, our planet, and living with such heart was truly inspiring. She touched countless lives with her wisdom and kindness and will be deeply missed. Her light and legacy will shine on forever. Thank you, Jane, for changing the world and for being such a bright light.”
She included a selfie of herself with Goodall, pictures of the two hanging out, and pictures of Goodall with some of her beloved chimpanzees.
Dr. Goodall‘s pioneering work began in the 1960s when she conducted groundbreaking studies on chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania.
Her observations challenged existing scientific paradigms, revealing that chimpanzees use tools and exhibit complex social behaviors.
This research not only transformed the field of primatology but also reshaped our understanding of human evolution.
A global outpouring of tributes
Beyond her scientific achievements, Dr. Goodall was a passionate advocate for conservation and animal welfare.
She founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977, which continues to promote wildlife research, education, and conservation efforts worldwide.
Through her Roots & Shoots program, she inspired young people to take action for the planet, fostering a global network of youth dedicated to making a positive impact.
Her passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from around the globe. Prince William praised Dr. Goodall as an “extraordinary voice” whose pioneering spirit and compassion transformed our understanding of the natural world.
Former U.S. President Barack Obama also honored her memory, highlighting her role as a trailblazer in science and conservation.
“Jane Goodall’s work has inspired generations of scientists and environmentalists,” he said. “Her legacy will continue to guide and motivate those who strive to protect our planet.”
In Canada, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared a personal tribute, recalling his experience planting a tree with Dr. Goodall.
“Heartbroken to hear of Dr. Jane Goodall’s passing,” he wrote. “She was a pioneer whose research and advocacy reshaped our understanding of the natural world. Her wisdom and compassion will live on in every act of conservation.”
