After having arguably the best game of his career on Sunday, Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle has a revenge game to look forward to next week. Dowdle, who joined the Panthers during free agency this offseason, will be facing his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, next week.
Dowdle popped off in Carolina’s 27-24 comeback win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, getting 206 rushing yards and a touchdown. When asked about next week’s matchup against his former team postgame, Dowdle said that he thinks Dallas knows what might be coming.

“They gotta buckle up. I think they know for sure. I been there five years, they didn’t keep me there for five years for no reason,” Dowdle said, via The Athletic’s Joe Person. “(I) look forward to playing those guys next week and we’ll get to it … when we get there.”
Dowdle’s showing on Sunday, with 234 total yards, was by far his best outing to date, in a career hampered by injuries. Dowdle signed with the Cowboys in 2020 after going undrafted, but was sidelined for the entire 2021 season and most of the 2022 season with injuries.
Last season, Dowdle had his best year yet. But his season high — 149 rushing yards, ironically in a win over Carolina — is eclipsed by his stellar performance on Sunday.

Part of Dowdle’s dominance came from stepping up as the Panthers’ RB1, with starting running back Chuba Hubbard out with a calf injury. It’s unclear whether Hubbard will be available for Carolina next week, but either way Dowdle is clearly ready to take on that role.

Fantasy Football Week 5 Target Trends: Puka Nacua continues record-breaking pace
Once a week during the NFL season, I dig into the pass-game data and try to figure out what trends matter at wide receiver, tight end and running back. Let’s open up the spreadsheets and see what we find.Puka Nacua, WR, RamsThe amazing Nacua is currently on pace for 210 targets, 176 catches, 1,999 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns (he also had another score on the ground). The true measure of offensive greatness is being able to dominate even when the opponent knows what’s coming. Sure, we’d like more touchdowns, but if Nacua hits the other statistical paces we listed, they would all be new NFL records.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis is basically a reboot of the monster season Cooper Kupp posted in 2021, another Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay production. The narrow usage tree is alive and well in Los Angeles. If we […]

Only Taylor rematch can tempt Jonas to fight on
The only fight that could lure Natasha Jonas back to boxing is a rematch with Irish superstar Katie Taylor.Jonas first met Taylor in a memorable Olympic quarter-final at London 2012. Taylor prevailed in three-round thriller that set a record for crowd noise. They boxed as professionals, with Taylor edging the decision, winning unanimously but by one point on two judges' cards. That pro world title fight took place in 2021 without spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic. Spreaker This content is provided by Spreaker, which may be using cookies and other technologies. NCAA set to allow college athletes to bet on professional sporting events
College athletes could soon be allowed to bet on professional sporting events. On Wednesday, the NCAA’s Division I Administrative Committee approved a proposal allowing players to bet on pro sports. Current NCAA rules prevent players from placing any sports bets at all. If approved by the Division II and Division III governing bodies, the rule change would go into effect on Nov. 1.“The Administrative Committee was clear in its discussion today that it remains concerned about the risks associated with all forms of sports gambling but ultimately voted to reduce restrictions on student-athletes in this area to better align with their campus peers,” Illinois athletic director and committee chair Josh Whitman said in a statement. “This change allows the NCAA, the conferences, and the member schools to focus on protecting the integrity of college games while, at the same time, encouraging […]
