For the third time in four years, the South Carolina Gamecocks are headed to the NCAA women’s basketball national championship. The No. 1-ranked Gamecocks secured their spot with a decisive 74-57 win over fellow top seed Texas in the first semifinal of the 2025 Final Four.
A dominant third quarter and standout performances from Te-Hina Paopao and Joyce Edwards fueled South Carolina’s victory, cementing their status as one of the elite programs in college basketball.

South Carolina’s women’s basketball program has consistently demonstrated dominance, making a strong case for being a dynasty in the making. With three national championship appearances in the last four years and a title win in 2022, the Gamecocks have solidified their position as one of the top teams in collegiate basketball.
Their impressive run under Head Coach Dawn Staley reflects not only sustained excellence but also an ability to attract top talent and develop players into stars, like Aliyah Boston, Te-Hina Paopao, and Joyce Edwards.

Te-Hina Paopao and Joyce Edwards stood out as game-changers for South Carolina. Paopao contributed 14 points, including three crucial three-pointers that energized her team at key moments. Edwards, a freshman sensation, delivered an all-around performance with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists off the bench. Bree Hall also made an impact, scoring 11 points and providing steady energy throughout the game.
For Texas, the loss was particularly difficult given the challenges they faced during the matchup. Star forward Madison Booker struggled with foul trouble, spending significant time on the bench. Freshman guard Jordan Lee stepped up in her absence, leading all players with 16 points, but her efforts alone weren’t enough to counter South Carolina’s depth and cohesion.
The Gamecocks’ balanced team effort proved to be the difference-maker, with every player who saw significant minutes contributing to the scoreboard. Head coach Dawn Staley once again demonstrated her ability to lead her team to victory on the sport’s biggest stage.
