¿Por qué este Ferrari de Michael Schumacher desató la locura en Japón?

El concepto del motor delantero ubicado entre los dos ejes, por supuesto repartiendo la fuerza al eje trasero, era el favorito de Enzo Ferrari. De hecho, los coches más cotizados de la marca italiana en vida de su fundador han tenido esta configuración (con permiso del 250 LM, con motor tras el piloto), que sin embargo se abandonó en 1973 con el cese de producción del 365 GTB/4 Daytona.

El motor, delante del piloto

Pero aquella tendencia olvidada volvió a florecer cuando en 1996 se lanzó el Ferrari 550 Maranello: tenía un V12 atmosférico de 5,5 litros con 485 CV, era capaz de pasar de 0 a 100 en 4,4 segundos y alcanzar una velocidad punta de 320 km/h… Y todo con el motor delante del piloto.

La puesta de largo en Alemania del modelo alemán coincidió con los Ferrari Racing Days, un evento en el que todo es a mayor gloria de la marca italiana. Fue el 20 de julio de aquel año, en el circuito de Nürburgring, cuando se lanzaron a la pista los coches históricos de la Shel Ferrari Historical Challenge y Michael Schumacher rodó con el F1 310 de Fórmula 1.

Lanzamiento a lo grande

Pero como, más allá de la competición, lo que le interesa a Ferrari es vender coches, se aprovechó para traer ocho unidades del nuevo 550 Maranello para que las rodaran nada menos que otros tantos pilotos o ex pilotos de Fórmula 1: Nicky Lauda, Jody Schekter, Eddie Irvine, Giancarlo Fisichella, Max Papis y un joven Michael Scumacher.

El coche con chasis 105067 tuvo la ‘mala suerte’ de que le tocara ser pilotado por Papis, el menos legendario de los pilotos que allí se dieron cita (solo corrió siete carreras de Fórmula 1 en 1995 a los mandos de un Arrows, con un séptimo puesto como mejor resultado). Pero después aquel coche, en color plata (Argento Nürburgring) con interior en Rojo Cartier, fue el elegido para el reportaje que le dedicó al nuevo modelo la revista italiana Quattroruote, en agosto de 1996.

Michael necesitaba un coche

Tras aquella presentación y la posterior prueba volvió a Maranello y Ferrari lo retuvo. Pero como Michael Schumacher necesitaba un coche, se lo cedieron para su uso personal. Cuánto tiempo lo tuvo es algo que desconocemos, como el número de kilómetros que le pudo hacer.

Aun así, el coche reunía ya unos requisitos que bien supieron apreciar más tarde los coleccionistas y hicieron que pronto su cotización subiera como la espuma: tenía una combinación de colores espectacular, se había empleado en la presentación del modelo, había pertenecido a la propia marca, contaba con kilometraje muy bajo y encima había estado a disposición exclusiva de Michael Schumacher.

Confirmación de haberlo tenido

Para darle más valor, en Ferrari pidieron al piloto alemán que confirmara que esa misma unidad había sido su coche personal, cosa que Schumacher hizo mediante una carta en la que se leía: “Me complace confirmar que el 550 de Maranello, chasis nº 105067, es el coche que conduje en muchas ocasiones. (…) Espero que su próximo propietario disfrute de este coche que he amado durante mucho tiempo”. Y para redondear la exclusividad del coche se le pidió que estampara su firma en el exterior de la guantera.

La carta tenía fecha del 10 de febrero de 2003, justo antes de que el coche se exportara a Japón, con rumbo final al importador oficial Cornes & Co. 13 días más tarde, el 23 de junio, Cornes lo puso a la venta y se encontró con que, dada la admiración que despertaba el alemán en aquel país, ese mismo día había recibido nada menos que… ¡165 solicitudes de compra! ¡Y eso que en Japón se conduce con el volante a la derecha!

De vuelta a Europa

Suponemos que fue el primero quien se lo llevó, aunque pasados los años lo acabó vendiendo para que fuera otro compatriota suyo quien lo disfrutara. Pero ahora esta maravilla diseñada por Pininfarina está de vuelta en Europa, con el atractivo de tener solo 10.008 kilómetros en su marcador y contar con un mantenimiento acorde a lo estipulado por la marca italiana.

Vuelve al viejo continente a la espera de encontrar un nuevo dueño que sepa valorar su historia. Y también que pueda pagar por ella, ya que en Aguttes, donde va a salir a subasta este 7 de abril, aseguran que puede venderse por un precio de entre 200.000 y 250.000 euros, cuando una unidad en estado y kilometraje similar pero sin ese pedigrí ya suele superar los 200.000 euros. Eso sí, el de Schumacher viene con un certificado de exportación temporal japonés y habrá que despachar impuestos en la aduana del país en el que resida su nuevo propietario. Pero, para un adinerado coleccionista, esto tal vez no suponga ningún problema.
