Donald Trump gives Shohei Ohtani star treatment during Dodgers Oval Office visit

The Los Angeles Dodgers are basking in the glow of a triumphant 2024 season, their first with Shohei Ohtani on the roster, and it couldn’t have gone much better. They racked up 98 regular-season wins – the most in Major League Baseball – before capping it off with a World Series victory over the New York Yankees in a thrilling five-game showdown. Ohtani, the three-time MVP, was a force of nature, hitting 54 home runs to break the Dodgers’ single-season record and lead the league, while also becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single year. On Monday, April 7, 2025, the Dodgers visited the White House to celebrate their championship and meet President Donald Trump, a self-proclaimed baseball fanatic who praised Ohtani for his historic 50-50 feat. With a roster this loaded, the Dodgers are already eyeing a return trip to the White House in 2026 – and their odds of repeating look pretty darn good.

A Special Moment in the Oval Office

During the visit, Ohtani received VIP treatment from President Trump, who invited the Dodgers’ star into the Oval Office for a private moment captured on video. There, Trump presented Ohtani with a medal, saying, “It’s a great honor, you’re an amazing athlete and person.” At 30 years old, Ohtani is in the prime of his career and has cemented himself as the face of baseball.

His global stardom stretches back to his native Japan, where he led the national team to the 2023 World Baseball Classic title, earning MVP honors after a victory over the United States. That international flair, paired with his jaw-dropping MLB feats, has made him a household name on both sides of the Pacific. Trump’s words weren’t just ceremonial-they echoed what fans already know: Ohtani’s a once-in-a-generation talent who’s rewriting the game’s history books.

Dodgers Eyeing a Repeat in 2025

The 2025 MLB season is still in its infancy, but the Dodgers are already looking like the team to beat. With a 9-2 record through their first 11 games, they’re off to a hot start, trailing only the San Francisco Giants (8-1) in the early going. It’s way too early to crown anyone-there are more than 150 games left-but the Dodgers are the clear favorites to win back-to-back titles, a feat not accomplished since the Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000. In the National League, the Giants, Padres, and Phillies may pose a threat, but none have the depth or star power of LA. In the American League, the Yankees and the 2023 champion Texas Rangers have also started strong, setting the stage for a potential postseason showdown.

This visit to the White House wasn’t just a celebration of the past-it was a glimpse into a future that could see the Dodgers cement a dynasty. Ohtani’s medal and Trump’s praise underscored his role as baseball’s brightest star, a player who isn’t just winning games, but redefining what’s possible on the diamond. As the Dodgers left Washington, D.C., for a series against the Nationals, their focus shifted back to the field, where they’ll look to build on their early success. If they keep it up, they could find themselves back at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue next year, hoisting another trophy and adding to their legacy.

Dynasty superflex rookie rankings: Ashton Jeanty holds the No. 1 spot but other rookies are rising fast

In the redraft world, there has been plenty of talk about the rise of the rookies. While Ashton Jeanty has been a top 24 player since the moment he was drafted, the gap is shrinking, even if he is still number one. Both TreVeyon Henderson and Omarion Hampton have taken advantage of their opportunities in the preseason, with Henderson doing more in the actual games and Hampton benefiting from Najee Harris' ongoing absence from team work. RJ Harvey is another rookie riser, because if preseason usage means anything at all, he looks like the lead back in Denver Week 1.Amongst the wide receivers, there have really been three big risers: Travis Hunter, Tetairoa McMillan, and Emeka Egbuka. For the first two, the redraft rise doesn't show up in the rookie rankings because Henderson and Hampton have risen faster. For Egbuka, […]

College football betting: Most overvalued and undervalued teams for Week 0 and Week 1 include Ohio State

Every Thursday during the college football season, I'll share who I think are the most undervalued and overvalued teams across that week's slate.  A great example of a "spot" play is Vanderbilt's upset over Alabama last season. The Commodores were returning home after two straight road losses, while Alabama was coming off an emotional win over No. 2 Georgia. Vanderbilt won the game outright as a 23-point underdog. We will see more spots like that once the season gets going, and I'll debut the article next Thursday for Week 1. With only five games on the slate this Saturday, I'll take a different approach and look at some teams that are undervalued and overvalued based on the Week 1 odds. UndervaluedOld Dominion Monarchs Old Dominion Monarchs is a team I like this season. I bet the Monarchs to win the Sun Belt Conference at +1000, and I […]

Predicting landing spots for five potential RB trade targets as Browns, Chiefs, Saints reportedly explore help

Running backs may not be the most premium of NFL positions, but that doesn't mean they're not valuable. Weeks after the Buffalo Bills paid James Cook to stick around for the long haul under a lucrative new deal, a handful of teams are eyeing upgrades for their backfield, scouring the pre-cutdown trade block for available veterans.Among the teams in hot pursuit: the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints, according to The Athletic. The Browns have yet to sign rookie second-round draft pick Quinshon Judkins, the Chiefs have struggled to find steady competition behind Isiah Pacheco, and the Saints, despite retaining Pro Bowler Alvin Kamara atop the depth chart, are without a proven insurance policy for new coach Kellen Moore's offense. Predicting when each NFL team will lose its first game: Steelers outlast almost everyone, Eagles fall early […]

Lamar Jackson injury: Ravens star quarterback misses practice after teammate steps on his foot

Getty Images Lamar Jackson did not practice on Thursday after leaving practice early on Wednesday. A teammate stepped on the star QB's foot and caused enough of an issue that Jackson left the Ravens' practice 40 minutes early. A team spokesperson said following practice on Wednesday that Jackson was fine.Jackson stayed in a few plays after he was knocked to the ground, but was seen headed to the team's training facility shortly thereafter while being flanked by several members of the medical staff. Several Ravens, including offensive coordinator Todd Monken and receiver Tylan Wallace, didn't see what happened regarding Jackson. "I was thinking like, 'Oh, he's probably just resting his arm or something like that,'" Wallace said after practice. "Obviously, we'll keep him in our prayers and everything and hope he's doing great. But with Lamar being Lamar, he'll be back before we […]

2025 Tour Championship tee times, pairings: Thursday schedule, coverage, groupings for Round 1 at East Lake

Getty Images Just like that, the FedEx Cup Playoffs field is down to 30 players. The 2025 Tour Championship is once again hosting those who were skilled enough to skirt past the first two playoff checkpoints and into the postseason finale where $10 million will be awarded to this week's eventual winner.Unlike recent iterations of the Tour Championship that featured a staggered start, this year's Tour Championship sees all 30 players begin their tournaments at even par, meaning everyone has an equal chance at taking home the FedEx Cup crown. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler tops that list, of course, as he looks to become the first man to successfully go back-to-back in the season-long race.Scheffler will be his defense at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday alongside the man with the most FedEx Cup titles (three), Rory McIlroy.
