Primeira vitória na Sul-Americana, liderança no Grupo G (quatro pontos) e gol do artilheiro Vegetti. Ingredientes de um jogo que poderia ter sido tranquilo, mas foi tenso em São Januário. O triunfo por 1 a 0 do Vasco sobre o frágil Puerto Cabello-VEN contou com o contraste da festa para o camisa 99 e as muitas vaias ao técnico Fábio Carille.
Vendo a pressão sobre o seu trabalho crescer, o treinador escalou força máxima, com uma única alteração no time que vinha sendo titular: a entrada de Tchê Tchê no lugar de Paulinho. A escalação ofensiva resultou em um Vasco que teve domínio da bola e do campo.
Além do fator casa, numa Colina novamente cheia, pesou a nítida disparidade técnica entre as duas equipes. Montado para se defender bem e sair nos contra-ataques, o Puerto Cabello ganhava pouquíssimas divididas e cometia falhas bobas. Em determinado momento do 1º tempo, o Vasco chegou a ter três jogadas de ataque em sequência, todas ganhando a bola pelo meio.
O que segurava o time venezuelano na partida eram as ótimas atuações do zagueiro Mbaye e, em especial, do goleiro Luis Romero, que fez três grandes defesas antes do intervalo.
O Vasco, por outro lado, tentava encontrar inspiração para além dos cruzamentos para Vegetti na área, uma necessidade para o restante da temporada.
Entretanto, se o time procura tanto seu artilheiro, é por um bom motivo. Quando o 1º tempo já se encaminhava para um 0 a 0, com 9 a 3 em finalizações, um cruzamento que parecia despretensioso de Garré se transformou em bola na rede: Vegetti deu dois passos para trás e ajeitou o corpo para colocar, de cabeça, no cantinho de Romero.
O gol de especialista transformou também o argentino no segundo estrangeiro com mais gols vestindo a camisa do Vasco. Chegou aos 44, superando Germán Cano e ficando atrás apenas de Villadoniga (83). Também foi a terceira vez que balançou as redes nesta edição da Sul-Americana.
Xingamentos a Carille
Se o gol de Vegetti fez a torcida explodir em alegria, um segundo tempo moroso e burocrático do Vasco cortou qualquer voto de confiança ou paciência.
Dificuldades na criação, falta de pontaria e espaços dados ao time venezuelano — mesmo que este não os tenha aproveitado — irritaram a torcida, que, em dois momentos, puxou coros fortes de “fora, Carille” e xingamentos ao treinador.
Coutinho teve duas boas chances, a melhor delas em cruzamento de Tchê Tchê, mas parou em Romero.
Mesmo com a vitória, os mais de 17 mil presentes não perdoaram: após o apito final, mais vaias, xingamentos e pedidos de saída do técnico foram ouvidos. Posteriormente, os vascaínos exaltaram Vegetti e Hugo Moura, destaques do jogo.
— Eu amo a torcida Vasco, mas se não estivermos todos unidos, as coisas não vão dar certo. É um treinador que trabalha muito — disse Vegetti, que abraçou Carille na comemoração do gol.
