Kyren Lacy’s Cause of Death: The star LSU wide receiver died at age 25 in Houston

Tragic news shook Louisiana State University (LSU) this Sunday with the announcement of the death of wide receiver Kyren Lacy. The Tigers star was struggling with the aftermath of a car accident he was involved in at the end of 2024 but still declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.

A graduate of Thibodaux High in Louisiana, Lacy was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2020. The young receiver initially enrolled with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns but transferred to LSU in 2022. In the 2024-2025 season, Lacy was the Tigers’ leading receiver with 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.

Last December, Lacy confirmed his entry into the 2025 NFL Draft. Preliminary evaluations pegged him as a multifaceted receiver with technical proficiency but lacked elite athleticism. Scouts considered him a third-day prospect.

Lacy’s cause of death and the December accident

Authorities have not released Lacy’s cause of death. However, the young receiver was still haunted by the aftermath of last December’s accident in which he crashed his car in Louisiana, killing a 78-year-old man.

Official reports indicate that Lacy was speeding on Louisiana Highway 20, illegally passing other cars, and eventually collided head-on with another vehicle. According to reports, Lacy fled the scene without calling emergency services or aiding the injured.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Lacy on January 10, 2025, and the player surrendered on January 12 after reaching an agreement with authorities. He was released that same day on $151,000 bail. According to local media, a grand jury was expected to begin reviewing the evidence in the case this Monday.

Lacy’s controversies

The last few months were turbulent for the young receiver. Not only because of the accident he was involved in, but also because of his conduct on the field. In January, Lacy found himself at the center of controversy for his celebration after a touchdown pass at the Modelo Vegas Kickoff Classic.

After catching the pass from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, the 24-year-old receiver celebrated by pretending to fire a rifle at opposing players. That action earned him the condemnation of fans; however, his death shocked the Louisiana State University community.

Rest in peace, Kyren Lacy.
