A new act of violence occurred in the United States, with a shooting on Thursday at Florida State University in Tallahassee, which left at least six people injured, one of them in critical condition.
A suspect was taken into custody, although the university remains on alert for students and employees to seek shelter, due to the presence of an “active shooter.”
Although the severity of the injuries is unknown, the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper was able to confirm through Stephanie Derzypolski, spokeswoman for Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, that they have received six victims of the shooting, one in critical condition and the other six are in serious condition.

The university has 40,000 students and images of the shooting flooded social media, with armed officers searching for the shooter as students took refuge
“It was a bit of a surreal moment,” said Jake Nair, a senior at Florida State University, in comments reported by the AP agency, where he said he was studying in the library when a police officer ran out of the building, shouting for everyone to stay in place.
“He ran out with his gun in his hand,” Nair said. “Not all the students heard him, and some ran out the back of the library.”
Florida State cancels all local sporting events until Sunday.
In the wake of the shooting, according to information from ABC News, Florida authorities canceled all local sporting events until Sunday. The canceled events include three baseball games and three softball games.
It is not immediately clear if FSU teams scheduled for events away from home will also see their games canceled or postponed.
Threat neutralized
According to information from AP, the alert system of Florida State University announced about three hours after the shooting that law enforcement had “neutralized the threat”. Authorities asked students and faculty to avoid the student union and other areas that were still considered active crime scenes.
Dozens of patrol cars, including a forensic van, were parked in front of the student union. Officers blocked off the area with tape.
President Donald Trump commented on the shooting from the Oval Office and said he had been fully briefed: “It’s horrible. It’s horrible that things like this happen,” he said.
