Más allá del triunfo de Bagnaia, la caída de Marc Márquez y el liderato del Mundial de Álex Márquez, el Gran Premio de las Américas se recordará por el caos que se vivió en los minutos previos al inicio de la carrera. Las imágenes de los pilotos de Moto GP corriendo como locos desde la parrilla a los boxes a cambiar de moto quedará para siempre en el recuerdo.
Fue una situación surrealista que se gestó porque los comisarios declararon la carrera en mojado después de que cayeran unas pocas gotas media hora antes del inicio. Eso permitía que se pudiera cambiar de moto en cualquier momento.
En ese ambiente de gran tensión, que fue a más después de que el ‘safety car’ se estrellara en la vuelta de reconocimiento y Quartararo se fuera al suelo en ese mismo giro por ir con lisos, llegó la locura. Ocurrió justo ante de hacer la vuelta de calentamiento, cuando se pudo ver a multitud de pilotos corriendo desde la parrilla al box para coger su segunda moto. Marc fue el primero en ir a por ella. Pecco y Di Giannantonio le siguieron y, tras ellos, bastantes más creando una situación nunca antes vista. Eso obligó a la Dirección de Carrera a sacar la bandera roja y retrasar la carrera por motivos de seguridad.
Sabía que me iban a seguir más de 10 pilotos
Fue el propio Marc Márquez el que reconoció que él fue el que decidió retrasar el inicio aprovechando el Reglamento, el cual conocía: “Cuando quedaban 7 minutos le he dicho a la gente del equipo si estaba la moto preparada. Tenía muy claro el Reglamento y al ver que no llovía le he avisado al equipo, me han dicho que estaba listo y no he dudado. Nuestra faena es esa y sabía que me iban a seguir más de 10 pilotos, lo que obligaría sacar la bandera roja”.
El primero que siguió a Marc fue su compañero Bagnaia, aunque asegura que no fue una decisión premeditada del equipo. Simplemente, siguió al 93 porque le parecía una decisión acertada: “Cuando he llegado a la parrilla de salida, he notado que toda estaba seca. Estaba pensando en irme al box y justo Marc ha empezado a correr, así que he ido yo también. Él siempre es muy listo en estas situaciones”.
El tercero en discordia, Álex Márquez, admite que desconocía que la estrategia de su hermano: “No me lo esperaba, no sabía ni que se podía hacer eso. Es más, ni sabía qué hacer con mi moto, me han dicho en el equipo que la de seco estaba lista y he salido a buscarla”
MotoGp revisará el Reglamento
Tras la carrera, Mike Webb, director de carrera de MotoGP, explicó la decisión tomada y dejó entrever que estudiarán lo ocurrido y no descarta un cambio de Reglamento: “Dada la cantidad de pilotos, motos y personal de boxes en la parrilla y en la zona del ‘pitlane’ era imposible comenzar la vuelta de calentamiento. Un nuevo inicio de carrera era la forma más segura de responder a una circunstancia que no tiene precedentes en el inicio del Gran Premio. Analizaremos la situación junto con los equipos y revisaremos el Reglamento”.
Me he dicho ‘haz lo que haga Marc’, es el maestro en estas cosas
Con todo, el que mejor resumió lo vivido fue Pedro Acosta. “El más experto en estas situaciones es Marc. Así que me dicho ‘haz lo que haga él’, que es el que tiene más experiencia. Es el maestro en estas cosas”.
