Morgan Wallen’s abrupt exit from Saturday Night Live on March 29 raised eyebrows, but a source close to the country singer has now explained his actions.
Wallen, 31, was the musical guest with Mikey Madison hosting. At the end of the show, as Madison wrapped up her hosting debut, Wallen whispered something into her ear before quickly walking off stage. Shortly after, he posted a photo of a private jet on social media with the caption.
“Get me to God’s country,” Wallen wrote.
Was Wallen in a bad mood before the performance?
According to a source speaking to Variety, Wallen’s actions were consistent with how he entered and exited the New York City studio during rehearsals earlier in the week.

The insider stressed that there was no drama surrounding the situation and that Wallen didn’t intend to offend anyone. He reportedly didn’t give much thought to how his actions might appear to viewers.
Despite the source’s clarification, social media users had mixed reactions. Some fans were critical of Wallen, calling his behavior rude and disrespectful, especially considering SNL’s tradition of cast and crew moments during the credits.
One user remarked that it was “underhanded” for a country star to leave in such a manner. Others, however, defended Wallen, with one tweet expressing enjoyment at seeing him “storm off” during the closing moments.
Wallen performed two songs from his upcoming album I’m the Problem on SNL-“I’m the Problem” and “Just in Case.” His appearance marked his first return to the show since his controversial 2020 debut, when he was disinvited for violating COVID-19 protocols after being photographed partying maskless in Alabama.
I’m the Problem is set for release on May 16. SNL will return on April 5 with Jack Black as host and Elton John and Brandi Carlile as musical guests.
