Die Daikin Handball-Bundesliga ist auch auf den Trainerbänken (noch) eine Männer-Domäne. Nun sorgt ein Erstligist bei unseren Nachbarn auf dieser Position aber für Aufsehen.
Die ehemalige Nationalspielerin Irina Pusic wird in der kommenden Saison Cheftrainerin der Herrenmannschaft von HV Rapiditas im holländischen Nijmegen. Der ist in der Eredivisie aktuell Vorletzter in der 16er-Staffel. Allerdings steigt nur ein Team ab und der Vorsprung auf den Letzten ist groß.

Pusic übernimmt die Nachfolge von Osvaldo Gomes, der den Klub in der vergangenen Saison zum Aufstieg führte. Und das Trainer-Gen liegt bei der Holländerin, die aus Kroatien stammt, offenbar in der Familie. Ihr Bruder Marino ist Trainer des ukrainischen Fußballklubs Shakhtar Donezk.

„Ich freue mich sehr auf meine Aufgabe beim HV Rapiditas“, sagt Pusic. „Es ist etwas ganz Besonderes, dass ein Verein ohne externe Spieler die Eredivisie erreichen kann. Ich hoffe, dass ich gemeinsam mit den Jungs den nächsten Schritt machen, das Beste daraus machen und dem HV Rapiditas schließlich einen festen Platz in der Handball NL League sichern kann. Keine leichte Herausforderung, aber eine sehr schöne!“
Der Klub arbeitet ausschließlich mit Spielern aus der eigenen Akademie.

In Belgien wurde sie zudem Landesmeisterin, gewann zweimal den Landespokal und wurde 2001 zur Handballerin des Jahres gekürt. Mit Borussia Dortmund gewann sie 2003 den EHF Challenge Cup.
