Coming off its national championship run, Ohio State has made its first big splash on the recruiting trail.
Five-star safety Blaine Bradford, a Baton Rouge, La., native, committed to the Buckeyes on Monday morning. Bradford is the top safety in the Class of 2026 and the eighth commitment for the Buckeyes.

Bradford, ranked No. 23 overall, is OSU’s second five-star recruit, joining wide receiver Chris Henry (No. 9 overall).
This is a big move for the Buckeyes, who went into SEC country — in LSU’s backyard — and won a battle for a five-star safety.
Ohio State has had success in the South recently, signing five-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston from Georgia and five-star receiver Jeremiah Smith from Florida in the 2024 class and five-star corner Devin Sanchez from Texas in the 2025 class.
But this is different.
Bradford attends Catholic High School, which is about 4 miles from Tiger Stadium.
Ohio State will have to hold onto him until signing day, but this is quite the statement. And it continues the hot streak for safeties coach Matt Guerrieri.
Guerrieri didn’t have a major hand in luring Caleb Downs from Alabama to Ohio State, but he was involved in the recruitment. Since that signing, though, Guerrieri has added four-star safety Faheem Delane in the 2025 class, and he did great work coaching Downs and Lathan Ransom last year.
Head coach Ryan Day praised Guerrieri following the team’s championship run for being one of the bright young minds in the sport.
Guerrieri is in a position where he has a lot to sell on the recruiting trail. Downs emerged as one of the best players at any position after his transfer to Ohio State. That’s something that will appeal to recruits.
