En una Fórmula 1 que tiende a los circuitos urbanos -presentes y con nombres como Madrid o Bangkok para el futuro-, la nocturnidad y la lejanía de valores ‘clásicos’ de la categoría, el Gran Premio de Japón es todo un bastión de lo clásico. Es un circuito de piloto, poco adaptado a los monoplazas actuales (más grandes que hace dos décadas) y con poco espacio para solventar fallos. Si se suma el factor de la lluvia (hay probabilidad media para todas las sesiones) puede generar un buen espectáculo en el que Fernando Alonso y Aston Martin quieren decir cosas. Pasan por sumar y progresar, fundamentalmente.
La mayor parte de las estrellas conocen el trazado y sus secretos. Pero tiene tela, claro. “Es de la vieja escuela, no tienes oportunidad de fallar porque es estrecho, hay trampas de grava y un fallo te cuesta irte fuera”, enumera Pedro Martínez De la Rosa, embajador de Aston Martin y especialista en suelo japonés tras su formación en el país del sol naciente. Nadie mejor que él sabe lo que esconde Suzuka. “Debes ser muy preciso en la alta velocidad, sabiendo cambiar la dirección rápido y jugando con el acelerador. Es uno de los circuitos más difíciles y debes tener el coraje para tomar riesgos porque te da mucho tiempo”, añade.

De la Rosa también apunta a la configuración del coche como un aspecto clave. Allí tendrá que trabajar Aston Martin en un AMR-25 que deja alguna laguna todavía. “Necesitas un coche sensible de delante y que no se mueva en las altas velocidades. Ágil, rápido y muy sensible”, explica. Y a partir de ahí se puede conocer a los que sufrirán. “Dañarás los neumáticos si el coche no funciona bien en la alta velocidad”, cuenta.
Con la sensación actual de los coches actuales, la realidad es que importará el trabajo a una vuelta. “En la qualy no tocas los frenos durante la primera parte de la vuelta. Hasta la curva 10 estarán fríos. Tienes que trabajar en ellos en la vuelta de salida para conseguir que estén a temperatura. En carrera frenas más, pero debes gestionarlos bien”, agrega.

Y se podría sumar la lluvia. “Si se da, la dificultad estará en los cambios de dirección en alta velocidad porque perderás mucho agarre. Además, la superficie del agua cambia dependiendo de la elevación del circuito en cada curva. Es un trazado difícil para conducir por las diferentes líneas en la lluvia, y debes explorar cómo cambia el grip en cada vuelta”, cierra De la Rosa.
