A falta de nueve fechas para finalizar LaLiga EA Sports, el futuro de Xavi García Pimienta al frente del Sevilla se antoja más incierto que nunca. La derrota en el derbi hispalense es el último varapalo en una temporada repleta de vaivenes. Tras un inicio complicado, el club quiso demostrar la confianza en su entrenador a través de una renovación contractual, justo después de vencer con sufrimiento a un Valladolid que lleva varias semanas virtualmente descendido. Nadie lo entendió, ya que había firmado 8 puntos de 21 posibles y el equipo estaba undécimo en el campeonato. 22 jornadas más tarde, se encuentra en la misma posición.
En 2025, García Pimienta ha ido hallando argumentos suficientes para que el Sevilla no sufra tanto como en estos años anteriores. Sin embargo, existen dos razones que siembran la duda sobre su futuro. La primera se remonta al mercado invernal de traspasos, cuando el club hizo un esfuerzo económico por subsanar las carencias en la plantilla. Bajo esta premisa ficharon a Rubén Vargas y Akor Adams, pero faltó por llegar un lateral izquierdo que compensara la salida de Valentín Barco. Este contratiempo no gustó nada al técnico catalán, provocando quejas y cruces de declaraciones que deterioraron su relación con la entidad, especialmente con el director deportivo, Víctor Orta.
Errores sin solucionar
El segundo motivo que afecta negativamente a García Pimienta se refleja sobre el césped. Si bien es cierto que el Sevilla ha evolucionado en el apartado defensivo, continúa flaqueando en las jugadas de estrategia, donde es uno de los peores de la competición. A balón parado solo ha marcado cinco goles y ha encajado nueve, un balance muy pobre para un conjunto que, además, cuenta con futbolistas de bastante estatura. Algo parecido podría decirse respecto a los planteamientos de partido. En estos meses el técnico ha detectado un filón en los contraataques, lo que le ha supuesto un colchón de puntos a domicilio, pero sigue sin un plan B. Cuando debe proponer mediante el dominio de la posesión, su fútbol es totalmente inocuo.
La falta de alternativas convierte a cualquiera en previsible y los rivales saben cómo aprovechar esos errores que no se corrigen. Es lo que le sucede en buena parte a este Sevilla de García Pimienta. Por último, hay que señalar que su dirección de campo rara vez mejora la idea inicial de partido. Las sustituciones llegan tarde, normalmente cuando está contra las cuerdas, y suelen basarse en relevo natural por posición o en la acumulación de jugadores en ataque. La derrota en El Gran Derbi fue el enésimo ejemplo de que el entrenador no es capaz de dar con las soluciones a muchos de los problemas de su equipo. Mientras tanto, su futuro está en el aire y el tiempo se agota.
