Sólo había que echar un ojo al calendario: 1 de abril, April Fools’ Day, el equivalente al 28 de diciembre (Santos Inocentes) en el mundo de habla inglesa y también en otros países de Europa como Francia, Bélgica, Alemania, Italia…
“No puedo creer lo que digo, pero unas semanas después de romperme el tendón de Aquiles izquierdo, dormir en una cámara hiperbárica y hacer levantamientos explosivos, ¡mis médicos y entrenadores me tienen listo para jugar el Masters la semana que viene! ¡Qué ganas! Nos vemos en el campo”, escribió Woods en su redes sociales… Poco después añadía una potdata: “Día de los Inocentes, mi tendón de Aquiles sigue siendo un desastre :)”.
A principios de marzo, el ganador de cinco Masters anunció su grave lesión: “A medida que comencé a intensificar mi propio entrenamiento y práctica en casa, sentí un dolor agudo en mi tendón de Aquiles izquierdo, que se consideró que estaba roto”. Woods pasó por el quirófano y se estimó un tiempo de baja de unos seis meses.
Cabe recordar que desde desde el accidente automovilístico que sufrió en 2021, sólo ha disputado once eventos oficiales. La temporada 2024 fue prolífica, con cinco apariciones, la última en el British Open, tras la cual fue operado de sus problemas de espalda. Tenía previsto reaparecer en el Genesis Invitational, la segunda semana de febrero, pero no lo jugó al final por la muerte de su madre.
