La NBA no se anda por las ramas a la hora de atajar los comportamientos antideportivos que se producen, cada vez con más asiduidad, en algunos partidos. No les tiembla la mano a la hora de aplicar sanciones y tampoco lo ha hecho esta vez tras la multitudinaria tángana que se produjo hace cuatro días en el partido entre Detroit Pistons y Minnesota Timberwolves.

La pelea se desencadenó a 8:36 del final de la primera mitad. Stewart había recibido una falta técnica momentos antes al golpear con fuerza a DiVincenzo. Luego, Holland recibió una falta por quitarle el balón de las manos a Reid cerca de la línea de fondo.
Los dos intercambiaron palabras, DiVincenzo se interpuso entre ellos y agarró la camiseta de Holland, y pronto los 10 jugadores en la cancha y varios entrenadores y preparadores físicos se unieron a la pelea, con algunos jugadores cayendo sobre los espectadores sentados en primera fila.

Mientras que sus compañeros de Detroit Marcus Sasser y Ron Holland II recibieron un partido cada uno. Donte DiVincenzo y Naz Reid, de Minnesota , también recibieron suspensiones de un partido.

Prigioni, asistente de los Wolves, y Bickerstaff, entrenador de los Pistons, se libraron de la sanción pese a haber sido expulsados. Este último ya reconoció tras la refriega que las cosas se les habían ido de las manos, nunca mejor dicho. “Obviamente, las cosas se pasaron de la raya”, admitió. “Pero lo que se ve es que los chicos se cuidan entre sí, intentan protegerse, se apoyan mutuamente… Eso es innegociable en nuestro vestuario”, dijo intentarlo quitarle importancia al asunto.
