Nach dem 3:2-Sieg am Samstag im Liga-Heimspiel gegen St. Pauli hatte der „kicker“ gemeldet, dass die Bayern-Bosse den im Sommer auslaufenden Vertrag mit Thomas Müller (35) nicht mehr verlängern wollen.
Nach BILD- und SPORT BILD-Informationen ist die Entscheidung zwar noch nicht fix und offiziell, doch wie BILD bereits zuvor berichtet hatte, geht die Tendenz tatsächlich stark in die Richtung, dass der Ur-Bayer nach 25 Jahren im Verein (kam 2000 in die D-Jugend) kein neues Vertrags-Angebot bekommt.

Kein Spieler lief häufiger für den Rekordmeister auf als Thomas Müller: 742-mal. Keiner legte so viele Treffer auf: 273. Und nur Gerd Müller (570) und Robert Lewandowski (344) schossen mehr Tore als er: 247.

Und dennoch ist im Sommer der richtige Zeitpunkt, ihn gehen zu lassen. Denn in der laufenden Saison hat Müller in 23 Liga-Spielen nur ein Tor gemacht und drei vorgelegt, so wenige wie noch nie. Bei einem Jahresgehalt, das bei 17 Mio. Euro inklusive Prämien liegen soll, reicht das nicht. Zwischen 2019 und 2022 legte er jedes Jahr noch 21 Treffer auf, schoss mindestens acht Tore.
Müller keinen neuen Vertrag zu geben, das ist extrem hart – aber konsequent. Vor allem, weil Bayern sparen muss. Vielleicht hätten die Bosse auch einen Kompromiss finden können. Auf wie viele Millionen Gehalt Müller sich hätte herunterhandeln lassen können, ist unklar. Klar aber: Sportlich ist Müller nicht mehr der Müller von früher.

Vorweg: Es geht nicht darum, sich eine Legende finanziell zu leisten. Fakt ist: Bayern will Thomas Müller keinen neuen Vertrag geben, weil er nicht mehr so oft zum Einsatz kommt. Müller spielte in dieser Saison 862 Bundesliga-Minuten. Zum Vergleich: Das ist mehr als João Palhinha (563), Sacha Boey (420) oder Hiroki Ito (249).
Palhinha hat Bayern 51 Millionen Euro gekostet, Ito 23,5 Millionen und Boey 30 Millionen Euro. Die Kosten von Müller für den FC Bayern an Ablöse waren im Jahr 2000: null Millionen Euro! Müller war in seinen 16 Spielzeiten nie ernsthaft verletzt. Übrigens anders als das angeführte Trio. Ausgerechnet bei Müller soll nun aber gespart werden! Eine Gehaltskürzung wäre absolut nachvollziehbar. Aber gar kein Angebot? Das ist nicht Bayern-like für einen der verdienstvollsten Spieler der Klub-Geschichte, der noch immer Leistung bringt. Bei Müller spart Bayern am Falschen.
