Im vergangenen Wintertransfer-Fenster tauchte plötzlich der Name eines Italien-Stars auf, der mit den Bayern in Verbindung gebracht wurde: Sandro Tonali (24) von Newcastle United. Der Nationalspieler hatte den unbedingten Wunsch, die Premier League zu verlassen – am Ende passierte aber nichts.
Tonali lüftete jetzt in einem Interview ein Geheimnis. Dabei geht es um ein zufälliges Treffen in einem Restaurant – mit dem damaligen Juve-Abwehrstar Matthijs de Ligt, der nur zwei Jahre später für eine Fixsumme von 67 Mio. Euro zum FC Bayern wechselte!
Im Sommer 2020 wusste Tonali nicht, welchen Weg er in seiner Karriere einschlagen sollte. Er spielte für Brescia, wurde aber von vielen italienischen Top-Klubs gejagt. „Wir waren mit dem Brescia-Kader auf Sardinien. Dort haben wir de Ligt in einem Restaurant getroffen. Er hat von Juventus geschwärmt und mir geraten, darüber nachzudenken“, sagte Tonali gegenüber „Cronache di Spogliatoio“.

Tonali ließ sich offenbar beeindrucken, haderte lange mit seiner Entscheidung: „Das war der Sommer, als ich nicht wusste, wo ich unterschreiben sollte. Bis fünf Tage vor Schluss wusste ich es nicht.“ Der Italiener gab schließlich AC Milan den Zuschlag, Klub seines Herzens seit der Kindheit. Doch nach nur zwei Jahren wechselte er für 59 Mio. Euro zu Newcastle United.
