El ‘cambio de vida’ de una superestrella de la UFC: adiós a la marihuana, las redes sociales, la masturbación y los videojuegos

El próximo 7 de junio, en Newark, Nueva Jersey, Sean O’Malley (18-2) tendrá la opción de volver a ser campeón de la UFC. El ex monarca del peso gallo, y una de las grandes estrellas de la UFC, perdió dicho trono en septiembre de 2024 ante Merab Dvalishvili (19-4). El georgiano y amigo de Topuria destronó al estadounidense pasándole por encima en una demostración de superioridad brutal. Pero ahora, al menos así lo dice ‘Suga’, hay un ‘nuevo O’Malley’.

El ex campeón se sometió a una cirugía de cadera tras su derrota, con la expectativa de tener la oportunidad de recuperar el oro en su regreso. Y así será en UFC 316. Lo comunicó Dana White esta semana. Su primera pelea desde aquella derrota en Noche UFC ante Merab.

O’Malley dejó claro ayer en su podcast que el próximo mes de junio, entrará al octágono como una persona diferente no solo por su salud física, sino también por su salud mental. Para conseguirlo, ha dejado múltiples vicios que lastraban su rendimiento, explica.

“Siento que muchos cambios en mi vida se deben a mi desempeño. Por ejemplo, dejar de usar redes sociales. Decidí que en 2025 dejaría de usarlas… No las uso, y siento que eso me ha cambiado la vida. Solo han pasado tres meses, pero siento que me han cambiado la vida, y que eso influirá en mi desempeño. Todas esas pequeñas cosas: tomar decisiones como esa, sacrificios. No creo que (las redes sociales) sean un sacrificio, pero renunciar a algo, siento que me ayudará a desempeñarme bien en el futuro”, cuenta en ‘TimboSugarShow’, su podcast. Pero no ha sido lo único a lo que ha renunciado.

“No me he masturbado ni una sola vez este año, ni una sola vez en 2025. No me he masturbado ni he estado en redes sociales… Tampoco he jugado a videojuegos. Dejé de jugar. Jugaba mucho, dos o tres horas al día, y necesito llenarlas con algo. Hemos estado jugando mucho al póker Texas Hold’em con los chicos. Ha sido muy divertido”, explica. Pero tampoco acaba ahí.

“También dejé de fumar marihuana. Dejé de fumar de repente. Simplemente no me gustaba cómo me hacía sentir. Duermo mejor… No he dejado de fumar para siempre, pero ahora mismo no siento la necesidad ni las ganas. Siento que ha sido bueno”, sentencia el peleador de Montana. 

El próximo 7 de junio deberá demostrar si estos cambios han surtido efecto en su rendimiento.
