Fantasy Football: Identifying the players who could see more targets in Week 5

Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes Last year, I introduced a new framework for understanding wide receiver play, quarterback decision-making and offensive potential. This framework relies on an XGBOOST model and PFF’s impressive collection of route-level data. Using machine learning and this breadth of PFF data, we can create models with the goal of predicting where a target should go on a given play. The resulting metrics, Share of Predicted Targets and Share of Predicted Air Yards, are both more stable than their “actual” counterparts Week 4 Recap Week 5 Potential Breakouts These are players who were open significantly more than they garnered targets in Week 4. In general, players who show up on this list see an uptick in Targets per Route Run and Target Share relative to both themselves and all players with similar target shares. A.J. Brown had […]

Identifying fantasy football, DFS breakout candidates ahead of Week 5

Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes Fantasy and DFS enthusiasts, bettors and analysts often rely on a wide array of statistics and models to gain a competitive edge. These range from basic box score stats to advanced metrics available in PFF's Premium Stats 2.0 and models like Josh Hermsmeyer‘s Buy Low model and WOPR (Weighted Opportunity Rating). There is always room for new insights and analyses to help bettors and fantasy managers refine their strategies. That’s why I developed a new metric that offers several advantages over WOPR. Click here for an in-depth explanation of the model, my process and its advantages. Week 4 Recap Garrett Wilson: WR10 – 20.2 PPR points DeVonta Smith: WR66 – 4.9 PPR points. The Eagles had zero passing yards in the second half. DeVonta Smith was open plenty, as he appears in this week’s “Coach, […]

NFL Week 5: PrizePicks best prop bets

Each week, we will analyze some of the best player statistics on PrizePicks with the help of our new PFF Player Props Tool. Betting insights, matchup data and historical hit rates are just a few the things the tool has to offer. Here are two props that stand out ahead of Week 5 of the 2025 NFL season. RB Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers: More than 90.5 rush + rec. yards Hampton has already established himself as a clear three-down workhorse running back just four games into his NFL career. His 212 snaps through Week 4 are the fifth-most for all backs this season, a trend you can expect to continue with Najee Harris on the team’s Injured Reserved (IR) for the rest of the season. In their first game without Harris last week vs. the Giants, Hampton was on […]
