El Sporting de Gijón por fin ha aterrizado tras su mala racha de resultados: ¡apenas una victoria en las últimas 16 jornadas de Liga! Hasta hace apenas dos semanas la aspiración seguía siendo la de apurar las opciones de alcanzar los playoffsde ascenso. En ese mismo espacio de tiempo se debatía si el club sería capaz de garantizar la renovación de un entrenador que venía de conseguir solo una victoria de los últimos 14 partidos de Liga.
Tras dos jornadas más adversas, con derrotas ante Albacete en El Molinón y frente al Huesca en El Alcoraz, la realidad está evidenciando una temporada llena de contradicciones.
1.- Discurso irreal
Por orden cronológico, la primera de ellas es la que tiene que ver con el discurso inicial. Un recurso que el Grupo Orlegi y Rubén Albés dominan. Las dos partes compartieron en sus manifestaciones públicas el objetivo de luchar por el ascenso este curso, alimentando la esperanza de una afición que volvió a acudir en masa a renovar sus carnés de abonados. A la vista está, la inversión en la plantilla se quedó lejos de la ambición difundida.
2.- Ingresos vs. tope salarial
El gasto en jugadores fue moderado en verano y también en el mercado de invierno. En teoría, la masa salarial fue un obstáculo. No en vano, la actualización conocida en febrero colocó al Sporting en la zona media baja de la tabla de la categoría, siendo superado por 12 equipos. Eso sí, meses antes había presupuestado su cifra de negocios récord en Segunda división. Solo en abonados adelantó recaudar unos ingresos superiores a los seis millones de euros. La correlación nula es llamativa.

3.- Freno al rendimiento
Pese a todo, el inicio de campaña afianzó los buenos deseos de la dirección ejecutiva y técnica. No fue más que otro espejismo. El paso del tiempo dictó sentencia. Así, las lesiones proyectaron una plantilla corta, la intrascendencia de jugadores sin la confianza del entrenador, así como el inquietante rendimiento de futbolistas que en la 2023-24 habían dado más de un paso hacia adelante. Desde diciembre, se sucedieron los malos resultados.
4.- Todo o nada
No menos contradictorio resultó la lectura del club ante el mal momento. También el relato del entorno del entrenador. Con el equipo a la deriva, mientras se agudizaba una racha de las más negativas en su historia en Segunda división, un nuevo debate emergió en el ámbito mediático y social del Sporting: la renovación ‘al alza’ de Rubén Albés. Solo un proyecto de real inversión podía seducir a un entrenador con resultados alarmantes. Sorprendente. No mucho después, tras la derrota en Huesca, el Grupo Orlegi no descartaba su destitución.
5.- Gestión global
En realidad, el primer equipo es la prueba más visible de una administración general sin éxitos conocidos. Especialmente inquietante es la nueva filosofía de Mareo, que hace dos semanas celebró su 47 aniversario. La apuesta por la Academia Internacional se ha traducido en un primer filial que esta temporada ha presentado alineaciones con solo dos jugadores nacidos en Asturias. Además, hasta la fecha, tanto la formación como los resultados son insuficientes. El filial está a 19 puntos del líder en Tercera RFEF y tampoco aporta canteranos a un primer equipo con pocos efectivos.
