Hochspannender Euro-Endspurt für die Bayern, bevor es richtig losgeht.
Bayerns Basketballer vergeigen in ihrem vorletzten Hauptrundenspiel in der Euroleague gegen Maccabi Tel Aviv den sicher geglaubten Sieg, verlieren mit 90:93 in Belgrad vor Geisterkulisse. Dort müssen die Israelis weiterhin vor nur wenigen hundert Zuschauern ihre Heimspiele austragen – wegen der nach wie vor angespannten Lage im Nahost-Konflikt.

Die Bayern versuchen den besonderen Umständen zu trotzen, verpassen aber einen ganz wichtigen Schritt für den direkten Einzug in die Playoffs. Sie bleiben zwar vorerst Fünfter, drohen aber aus den direkten Playoff-Rängen in die Play-ins abzurutschen, weil die Teams hinter ihnen noch ein Spiel weniger haben und vorbeiziehen können.
Bayern-Coach Gordon Herbert scherzte noch vor dem Spiel über mögliche Rechenspiele: „Das ist zu verwirrend für mich, dafür bin ich nicht schlau genug. Wir versuchen einfach, das nächste Spiel zu gewinnen und schauen dann, was rauskommt.“
Das mit dem Gewinnen ist krachend schiefgegangen, Maccabi (hat als 16. keine Chance mehr auf die Post Season) leistet heftige Gegenwehr. Die Bayern nach dem ersten Viertel auf Kurs (22:17), bekommen aber in den zweiten zehn Minuten satte 31 Punkte eingeschenkt. So geht es trotz 17 Punkten von bis dahin herausragenden Shabazz Napier mit einem Rückstand in die Pause (44:48).

Immerhin gibt es vor der Partie gute Nachrichten aus dem Krankenlager: Devin Booker (34) feiert nach acht Wochen Zwangspause (Knieverletzung) sein Comeback, steht direkt in der Startformation. Dabei war er erst in dieser Woche wieder ins Fünf-gegen-Fünf-Training eingestiegen. Bayern-Coach Gordon Herbert (65): „Der medizinische Stab und er selbst haben einen herausragenden Job gemacht.“
Nach der Pause bläst sein Team zur Aufholjagd, legt zunächst einen 10:0-Lauf hin. Vor allem einer läuft mal wieder richtig heiß: Bayerns Mister Europacup Carsen Edwards (27). Der US-Boy dreht die Partie praktisch im Alleingang, trifft acht (!) Dreier allein im dritten Viertel.
Aus vier Punkten Rückstand wird eine 13-Zähler-Führung (74:60). Von den 30 Bayern-Punkten in diesem Viertel macht Edwards, der in der ersten Hälfte keinen einzigen Treffer aus dem Feld erzielt hatte, 24!

Bei 16 Punkten Rückstand zu Beginn des Schlussabschnitts orakelt Schönmüller über die Gastgeber: „Jetzt brauchen sie ein Comeback, und zwar ein fettes.“ Und was machen die Münchner nach der Edwards-Show? Lassen Maccabi tatsächlich wieder rankommen, aber so richtig. Drei Minuten vor Schluss ist der Vorsprung plötzlich auf zwei geschmolzen. Was für eine Achterbahnfahrt! Eine Minute noch – Maccabi schafft mit zwei Freiwürfen tatsächlich den Ausgleich (87:87).
TV-Mann Schönmüller entsetzt: „Die Bayern fallen hier zusammen.“
30 Sekunden später passiert, was passieren musste: Die Gastgeber bekommen nach Videobeweis den Ballbesitz zugesprochen, treffen erneut, gehen in Führung. Die Bayern vermasseln den nächsten Angriff, wieder Ballbesitz Tel Aviv. Noch sieben Sekunden auf der Uhr. Bayern muss foulen, Maccabi trifft wieder doppelt von der Freiwurf-Linie. Dann packt Edwards nochmal einen Dreier aus. 2,9 Sekunden noch und wieder sind die Israelis mit zwei Freiwürfen zur Stelle. Das war’s. Was für eine bittere und unnötige Pleite für den BBL-Tabellenführer.
Nun wartet in einer Woche noch das 34. und letzte Hauptrundenspiel zu Hause gegen den Tabellenzweiten Fenerbahce. Es wird zum Endspiel: Viertelfinale oder Extrarunde über die Play-ins.
