La victoria ante el Paris combinada con las derrotas de Partizan (en Kaunas) y del Bayern (ante el Maccabi), le permiten acabar este primer turno de la jornada 33 como quinto en la clasificación, superando a los alemanes, y jugarse esa posición en la última jornada ante los serbios, ya eliminados.
Pero hay más. También perdió el Mónaco ante el Panathinaikos y al Madrid se le abre el cielo, pues aún aspira a ser cuarto y tener el factor cancha a favor. Para eso, deberá ganar en Belgrado y esperar el tropiezo del Mónaco ante el Asvel. Los dos juegan el jueves día 10. También se tendrá que dar una derrota del Anadolu Efes en alguno de los dos partidos que le quedan.
Madrid, Bayern y Barça están igualados a 19 victorias, pero en el desempate entre los tres, el Madrid tiene tres victorias, el Bayern tres victorias y el Barça cero. El siguiente desempate entre madrileños y bávaros favorece a los de Chus Mateo.
Eso va a cambiar mañana si se mete en la ecuación el Anadolu Efes, que tiene 18 victorias y juega contra el Estrella Roja, también con 18. Si los turcos ganan, le robarán el quinto puesto al Madrid, si pierden quedarán a una victoria de los blancos.
Las opciones del Madrid de ser cuarto son altas y tiene el quinto puesto en su mano. Sin embargo, si todos los resultados de lo que queda y de la jornada 34 son adversos, incluyendo el partido de Belgrado, podría llegar a caer hasta la octava plaza, aunque eso es entrar en el terreno de la especulación más absoluta.
