The once high-profile friendship between actress Jaime King and global music star Taylor Swift appears to have faded in recent years, with sources attributing the distance to King’s ongoing personal struggles.
According to an exclusive report by Page Six, a source close to King said the two women “haven’t been in touch for a long time” despite their history. “Jaime misses Taylor and hopes they can reconnect at some point,” the insider said, adding that King “made Taylor her son’s godmother for a reason and she wants to continue that friendship.”

Swift, 35, and King, 45, developed a close relationship after meeting at a Golden Globes after-party in 2014. Their bond quickly deepened, and by 2015, King publicly named Swift as the godmother of her then-unborn son, Leo Thames.
That same year, King‘s then-husband, director Kyle Newman, collaborated with Swift on her “Style” music video.
However, in the years that followed, King‘s life became increasingly complicated, marked by a high-profile divorce, substance abuse allegations, and a protracted custody battle.
Custody loss and ongoing rehabilitation efforts
In recent weeks, King has faced renewed legal setbacks. A Los Angeles family court judge awarded sole physical custody of her sons, James (11) and Leo (9), to Newman following the actress’s failure to complete a court-ordered rehabilitation program.
Per the court’s ruling, King is currently permitted only supervised visitation with her children three times per week.
Approved supervisors include members of both her family and Newman‘s, including her mother, Nancy King, and her sister and brother-in-law, Sandi and Andy Larson.
“Jaime is doing her best to stay positive and she is determined to gain physical custody back of her sons,” the source told Page Six. “But the first step is working towards unsupervised visits.”
The source also emphasized King’s appreciation for her support network, stating, “She’s thankful they have agreed to step up and be involved in this custody situation because she couldn’t do it without them.”
King and Newman were married for nearly 13 years before King filed for divorce in 2020. At the time, she was also granted a restraining order against the filmmaker.
Newman, 49, has alleged in court filings that King struggled with addiction to opioids and alcohol during and after her pregnancies. He further claimed that their mutual friends once staged an intervention, and that their youngest son Leo was born with drug dependencies.
While neither Swift nor King has commented publicly on the current state of their relationship, the challenges King has faced may help explain the lack of recent contact between the former friends.
Despite these setbacks, King reportedly remains hopeful about the future-both as a mother and in rebuilding important relationships from her past.
