The community of Frisco, Texas, has been shaken by the tragic death of Austin Metcalf, a highly regarded 17-year-old football player at Memorial High School, who was fatally stabbed during a track meet on Wednesday.
The Frisco Police Department confirmed the incident occurred around 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium, following an altercation between Metcalf and fellow high school athlete Karmelo Anthony.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving procedures, including CPR, at the scene, but Metcalf succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. Authorities initially identified Metcalf as being 16 but later clarified his age as 17.
Metcalf was widely recognized for his athletic talents, notably in football. According to his Hudl profile, he stood six feet tall, weighed 225 pounds, and was set to graduate with the class of 2026. His father, Jeff Metcalf, described him as an MVP player and a natural leader, beloved by friends and teammates alike.
Speaking emotionally to NBC 5, Jeff Metcalf revealed the heartbreaking circumstances of his son’s death. He explained that Austin had confronted Anthony for sitting in the wrong section, triggering an angry reaction that escalated rapidly.
“He was on the right track. He was loved by many. He was a leader,” Jeff Metcalf said of his son. “They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms. I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney and I could tell-they said he wasn’t breathing.”
Community reacts as suspect faces murder charges
The tragedy quickly prompted an outpouring of community support. A GoFundMe campaign established in Austin‘s memory has already raised more than $15,000 of its $20,000 target. The fundraiser aims to provide financial assistance to Metcalf’s mother Meghan and twin brother Hunter during this devastating period.
Jeff Metcalf also took to Facebook to express his grief, writing: “As many of you know already, my son Austin was stabbed to death at a school track meet. This tragedy has shaken me, family, and friends to the core. I trust God will bring us through the tuff times ahead. I appreciate everyone who has reached out. He passed away in his brother’s arms. He wasn’t alone at least. I cant describe the range of emotions i am feeling. I pray god will guide our paths moving forward.”
He further expressed shock and disbelief at the violent nature of the incident, telling NBC 5: “I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up. This is murder.”
Suspect Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old student-athlete at Frisco’s Centennial High School, has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Anthony‘s profile on Hudl lists him as a member of the Titans Varsity football team, standing five feet 11 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, and part of the graduating class of 2025. His profile includes the statement: “GOD has shown you the right path just take it.”
Police have confirmed there is no further threat to public safety and Anthony remains in custody awaiting trial. No bond has been set as of now, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
