Los jugadores de béisbol venezolanos que han pedido asilo en Barcelona aseguran haber dado este paso para tener “la oportunidad de poder incrementar” su potencial en este deporte en España y agradecen el “excelente” trato recibido por parte de las organizaciones que les están atendiendo y de la Policía Nacional.
En total, son dieciocho los jóvenes deportistas que han solicitado asilo, entre ellos dos menores. Ya han sido interrogados por la policía en Barcelona y, a la espera de que se resuelva su petición, la mayoría se han integrado en el sistema de acogida del Ministerio de Inclusión, Seguridad Social y Migraciones.

En un vídeo difundido este viernes en las redes sociales, uno de estos beisbolistas, que se identifica como Ever González, acompañado de otros tres chicos, explica que están todos bien y que su decisión de pedir asilo nada tiene que ver con la política.
“Nosotros mismos tomamos la decisión de quedarnos aquí para que la población de España nos diera la oportunidad de poder incrementar nuestro potencial en el deporte, que es el béisbol”, señala el joven que habla a cámara.

Aclara que su entrenador, Julio Guevara, que sí volvió a Venezuela, no les abandonó, y que “siempre estuvo ahí, en cada momento, en cada lucha, en cada entrenamiento”.
“Las personas están diciendo muchas cosas que no son y eso nos perjudica a nosotros. Él no nos dejó ni nada, siempre estuvo ahí con nosotros”, remarca.
La Cruz Roja está atendiendo y da cobijo al grupo de deportistas venezolanos, ya que no disponían de recursos para hospedarse. Están atendidos en la conocida como fase 0, que corresponde a la primera asistencia y cobijo temporal de personas que piden asilo mientras se valora su situación.
En cuanto a los dos menores, están bajo la tutela de la Dirección General de Atención a la Infancia y la Adolescencia de la Generalitat (DGAIA), que depende del Departamento de Derechos Sociales.
Agradecidos por el trato recibido
González afirma que están “muy agradecidos” con el trato de las organizaciones que están interviniendo en el proceso y con la Policía Nacional: “Se han portado sumamente bien con nosotros, cuidándonos en cada momento, estando pendientes de nosotros. Le tenemos demasiado agradecimiento”.
Los 18 jóvenes -al principio se informó de 19- aseguran que viajaron a España para participar en varios partidos de béisbol -iban a jugar en Barcelona y Madrid antes de viajar a Italia-, pero no tomaron el avión de regreso a su país y se personaron el pasado lunes por la mañana en una comisaría de la Policía Nacional en Barcelona para pedir asilo.
El martes, la policía inició las entrevistas a este grupo para conocer el carácter de su solicitud, para posteriormente enviar el expediente a Madrid.
Dura crítica del régimen de Maduro
Tras conocer los hechos, el régimen de Nicolás Maduro emitió el pasado miércoles un comunicado en el que sostiene que podría haber una “posible trama de tráfico de personas” detrás de la petición de asilo de los jugadores.
En el comunicado que difundió Cancillería y el Ministerio del Poder Popular para el Deporte, se informó de que se inició “una investigación para esclarecer los hechos”. En ese sentido, dijeron que buscan “determinar si existe una posible trama de tráfico de personas vinculada a estos casos”.

Además, denunciaron “el uso reiterado de figuras jurídicas del derecho internacional con fines políticos por parte de algunos gobiernos, quienes buscan desacreditar a Venezuela”.
En el comunicado, reafirman su compromiso con la protección de los deportistas venezolanos y alertan sobre “la existencia de redes que buscan lucrarse con la trata y el engaño de jóvenes talentosos y sus familias”.
El comunicado venezolano cierra con un pedido a las autoridades de España: “Hacemos un llamado a las autoridades españolas para garantizar la transparencia en este proceso y evitar la politización de un asunto que debe ser tratado con responsabilidad”.
