In the latest episode of the IMO podcast, Michelle Obama spoke with her brother Craig Robinson and Jay Shetty about money in relationships. Robinson asked if she would be attracted to a man with financial problems, to which Michelle, with her characteristic humor, replied: “Eh, I married one.”
Michelle met Barack at the law firm Sidley Austin when she was 25 and he was 28. Robinson noted that, at that age, many women are looking for financial stability. However, Michelle made it clear that you can’t generalize: “I think women often don’t know what they’re really looking for in a partner,” she said.

The former first lady stressed that many women reject potential partners for superficial reasons, such as a lack of a college degree
For her, this is problematic, as it overlooks more important aspects of what really makes someone a good partner. “There is not enough reflection on what really matters in a relationship,” she added.
Michelle also mentioned that men in dating tend to focus too much on appearance. Although many men are very visual, she believes that women are looking for something deeper: “They want to feel loved, desired and chosen,” she said.
