Not all heroes wear capes. Two-time UFC champion Henry Cejudo proved that recently when he defended his neighbor from an assault and controlled a fugitive from the scene of a hit-and-run, all in one night.
Cejudo is no mere mortal. Before becoming a UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion, the fighter won the gold medal in wrestling at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming the youngest American medalist in this discipline at 22 years old.
The former champion had the opportunity to put his skills to the test in real life after a car crashed into his neighbor’s house on Friday night. After the accident, the driver tried to flee, but Cejudo’s neighbor tried to stop him, and that’s when things took an unexpected turn.
Henry Cejudo in action
According to a TMZ report, when the homeowner tried to stop him, the driver punched him in the mouth, prompting Cejudo to take action. Dressed in his gold silk pajamas, the former champion overpowered him by body-slamming him.
“You can see inside this room,” Cejudo told local media, “if someone was standing there, they would be dead. All these kids are lucky to be alive.” He said that when he realized what was happening, he told the car occupants: “‘Hey, you guys aren’t going anywhere.’ The owner of the house tried to stop them and said you need to be held accountable.”
The fighter recounted that while they were arguing, “one of them ended up [punching] my neighbor, and that’s when I had to step in.” He wasn’t the only one; other neighbors also intervened, “Pretty much all my neighbors came in to fight the situation. I ended up lifting him, dropping him, slapping him around a little bit, and just pretty much controlling him.”
The lesson is: Don’t go looking for trouble with Cejudo
It’s usually not advisable to get into a street fight with someone fleeing the scene of a car accident, but with his record, it’s clear that the former UFC champion is the exception to the rule.
The lesson here is if you’re going to get into trouble, make sure it’s not in Henry Cejudo’s neighborhood.
