Pro nás bylo utkání obrovsky těžké. Věděli jsme, že Budějovice budou bránit, což se potvrdilo. Pro nás utrápené vítězství, ale kdyby byl tento zápas na podzim, tak bychom ho nezvládli. Určitě jde o další posun dopředu. Jsem rád za tři body a pokračujeme dál.
Nyní jste vyhráli, byť ne po ideální výkonu. V čem je ten hlavní rozdíl oproti podzimu?
Hlavně teď máme výsledky. Celý tým šlape. A je důležité, abychom zvládali utkání, kde se herně tolik nedaří. Což se nám dnes podařilo. Daří se celému týmu a jsem rád, že z toho těžím i já.
Však jste Budějovicím vstřelil svůj první ligový gól .
A chutná skvěle! Ale bylo by to horší, kdybych ho dal a nevyhráli jsme. Což se nestalo a ten gól je takovou třešničkou na dortu. Asi každý chce dávat góly, takže jsem rád, že to tam konečně padlo.

Po vaší akci padl i gól v předchozím domácím utkání se Spartou. Vyžaduje po vás trenér jako po obránci, abyste se tlačil dopředu?
Ano, nějaké rotace hráčů trénujeme. Určitě je to jedna z věcí, které po mně trenér chce. Nějaké náznaky už byly v těch předchozích zápasech a jsem rád, že jsem to konečně protrhl.
Nyní Liberec hraje v rozestavení se čtyřčlennou obranou. Vyhovuje vám více než se třemi stopery?
Mně konkrétně jo. A budu mluvit i za kluky, bavili jsme se o tom spolu. Čtyřčlenná obrana nám sedí, ale rozestavení je na trenérovi, takže musíme akceptovat a respektovat, co řekne on.
Opět jste se přiblížili elitní šestce. Je teď hlavní motivací Liberce skončit ve skupině o titul?
Kdybych řekl, že se nakoukáme na tabulku, lhal bych. Ale jdeme zápas od zápasu, soustředíme se na každý. Když zvládneme i dva zbývající zápasy, určitě je možné, že se v elitní šestce usadíme.

„Před rokem měl výbornou přípravu, ale první zápasy byly malinko nervózní. Potom se zranil a skoro na půl roku z toho vypadl. Zimní přípravu měl opět velmi dobrou. Celé jaro odvádí velmi dobré výkony , za což jsme velmi rádi. A zdá se mi, že je stupňuje. Jsou lepší a lepší. Pepa je typ hráče, který čím víc bude hrát, tím více mu poroste sebevědomí. Je atletický typ hráče, pořád v náběhu. Takové hráče potřebujeme. Budějovicím dal gól, který byl pro nás nesmírně důležitý, byl vítězný. Pepovi pomohlo, že jsme šli do čtyřčlenné obrany, kde se cítí daleko lépe. Pomohlo to i křídlům. Tahle změna nám prospěla.“

Určitě je to pro mě nějaký malý cíl dostat se na mistrovství Evropy. Ale neupínám se na to. Samozřejmě nominace je na trenérovi a já jen musím podávat co nejlepší výkony, abych si ji zasloužil.
Jak moc vás zbrzdilo na podzim zranění?
Každý zranění a zvlášť, když je na začátku nového angažmá, je nepříjemné. Bohužel přišlo fakt ve špatnou chvíli, kdy jsem se už zabydloval v sestavě a bohužel kvůli zranění z toho vypadl na delší dobu, než se původně čekalo. Ale teď už jsem zpátky a věřím, že budu dál pomáhat týmu.
