El Tour de Flandes, una de las grandes joyas del calendario ciclista mundial, iniciará este domingo su edición 2025 en un clima de profundo luto. Dos participantes de la prueba amateur, disputada este sábado como antesala de la carrera profesional, han perdido la vida en incidentes ocurridos durante la jornada.
El primer fallecido, cuya identidad no ha trascendido, sufrió una caída en la localidad de Maarkedal. Pese a la rápida intervención de los servicios médicos, no fue posible reanimarlo. “Pese a los esfuerzos por reanimarlo, murió en el lugar por un paro cardíaco”, confirmó Gert Van Goolen, portavoz de la organización.
La tragedia, sin embargo, no terminó ahí. Según ha informado el diario belga Het Laatste Nieuws, un segundo participante, de nacionalidad francesa, también perdió la vida en las inmediaciones del Quaremont, cerca del emblemático Kluisberg.
A estos hechos se suma un tercer incidente grave: otro ciclista tuvo que ser evacuado en helicóptero tras un accidente en el Oude Kwaremont. Además, se han contabilizado decenas de caídas con diversas fracturas, en lo que la organización ha calificado como “situaciones inevitables” dadas las características del recorrido y la masividad del evento.
Estas trágicas noticias ensombrecen el ambiente de fiesta que normalmente envuelve a De Ronde, una carrera que trasciende lo deportivo y se vive con pasión casi religiosa en Flandes. La jornada dominical, que debía ser un foco de celebración ciclista, se tiñe ahora de dolor y respeto por quienes no pudieron cruzar la línea de meta.
