

The rodeo community is grieving the loss of Dylan Grant, a 24-year-old professional bull rider from Laramie, Wyoming, who tragically passed away following an accident during an Xtreme Bulls event at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Texas on Thursday, April 3.
Grant, a seasoned competitor in PRORODEO and Xtreme Bulls events, was thrown off a bull during the second round of the event. Emergency responders on-site quickly transported him to an ambulance, where medical personnel worked to stabilize him. He was then airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. Despite their efforts, Grant succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Wharton County Sheriff Shannon Srubar expressed condolences, saying, “Prayers are with Dylan Grant, his family, and the rodeo community.” The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) also issued a heartfelt tribute, sending “thoughts and prayers to Dylan Grant’s family, friends, and the entire rodeo/bull riding community.”

Grant’s passing comes as a heartbreaking loss to the rodeo world, where he had left a lasting mark. According to the PRCA, Grant first obtained his permit in 2018 and earned his PRCA card in February 2024. He accrued more than $15,000 in prize money during his bull-riding career.
He was also remembered as a standout talent during his time competing for the University of Wyoming’s rodeo team. A 2023 graduate with a degree in Physical Education, Teacher Education, Grant was described by his alma mater as “a champion of life inside and outside of the arena.”
Tributes have poured in from across the rodeo community. The University of Wyoming rodeo team mourned his loss on social media, expressing support for his parents, Wade and Tiffany. Similarly, the Wharton County Youth Fair shared a touching tribute, calling Grant “a talented young cowboy.” Kendra Santos, who was involved with the event, added, “Our rodeo family lost a talented young cowboy.”
Grant’s tragic passing serves as a reminder of the risks inherent in the sport of bull riding. As the rodeo world comes together to honor his legacy, his impact as both an athlete and a person will not be forgotten.
