Thomas Müller (35) verlässt den FC Bayern nach 25 Jahren zum Saisonende. Das verkündete der Weltmeister von 2014 am Samstagvormittag in einem Video auf YouTube. Wenige Minuten später zog auch der Klub nach.
Auch wenn beide Seiten im Guten auseinandergehen, lief im Fall Müller nicht alles astrein ab.
Dass Eberl Müller im Januar die Tür für eine Verlängerung geöffnet, Ehrenpräsident Uli Hoeneß ihm wenig später hingegen zum Karriereende geraten hatte und vor wenigen Tagen die interne Entscheidung des Müller-Aus‘ vorzeitig öffentlich geworden war, gefiel dem Ur-Bayer nicht.

Matthäus: „Es gab Kommunikationsprobleme – ganz sicher… Bei Bayern München hängt der Haussegen ein bisschen schief, da gehen die Meinungen auseinander und die Causa Müller zeigt das nochmal ganz deutlich.“
Und der Weltmeister von 1990 weiter: „Max Eberl wollte eigentlich einfach mit ihm verlängern und Uli Hoeneß sagt, dass es Müller sowie dem FC Bayern aber nichts bringe und dass der Verein für einen Spieler sehr viel Geld zahlt, von dem man diese sportliche Leistungen nicht mehr erwarten könne – nach vielen, vielen Profi-Jahren, was ein ganz normaler Vorgang ist.“
Müller soll rund 17 Mio. Euro pro Jahr verdienen. Ein Gehalt, das die Bayern in Zukunft offenbar lieber einsparen. Zudem schenkte Cheftrainer Vincent Kompany (38) Müller zuletzt nur wenig Spielzeit. In der laufenden Saison kam der Offensivspieler zwar 36-mal zum Einsatz, selten aber über die komplette Distanz. Auch deshalb hatte Hoeneß Müller das Karriereende nahegelegt.
