Wunschspieler von Trainer Pep Guardiola (54) soll laut einem Bericht des „Mirror“ Florian Wirtz (21) sein. Die City-Bosse seien den Angaben zufolge bereit, die Grenze von 100-Millionen-Pfund (117,5 Mio. Euro) zu sprengen, um den Nationalspieler von Bayer Leverkusen zu holen.
Der neue Sportdirektor Hugo Viana (42) hat die Aufgabe, den Deal zu realisieren. Mit reichlich Geld ausgestattet, soll er Leverkusen zum Verkauf bewegen. Bereits vor fünf Jahren zahlte City damals eine Ausstiegsklausel von 100 Millionen Pfund für Jack Grealish (29) an Aston Villa.
[–>Die Summe dürfte beim deutschen Superstar aber nicht reichen: Leverkusen stellt sich in diesem Sommer einen Betrag von mindestens 150 Mio. Euro vor. Manchester muss also erneut tief in die Tasche greifen, um Wirtz zu verpflichten. Bereits im Winter gab der Noch-Meister rund 200 Mio. Euro für den Neuaufbau nach einer enttäuschenden Saison (aktuell Platz 5 in der Premier League) aus.
So kamen Omar Marmoush (26) für rund 75 Mio. Euro aus Frankfurt, Nico Gonzalez (23/60 Mio. aus Porto), Abdukodir Khusanov (20/40 Mio. aus Lens) und Vitor Reis (19/37 Mio. von Palmeiras).
Wirtz hat noch zwei Jahre Vertrag in Leverkusen. Der Klub will ihn mit einer Verlängerung bis 2028 gern noch bis nach der WM 2026 halten – würde im Zuge dessen auch eine Ausstiegsklausel im Vertrag akzeptieren. Diese könnte dann im Bereich von 125 bis 130 Mio. Euro liegen.
City glaubt, dass Meister Bayer es vorziehen würde, dass der Topstar die Bundesliga verlässt. Wirtz, der in dieser Saison 15 Tore erzielt und 13 Vorlagen gegeben hat, fällt derzeit mit einer Knöchelverletzung aus.
