En la otra cara de la moneda, Max Verstappen logró sentarse en lo más alto del podio por primera vez en la temporada. El neerlandés sacó el máximo provecho a la pole conseguida el día sábado, y logró mantener a los McLaren fuera de la zona de DRS en el desarrollo del GP. Ante esta hazaña, Alonso se llenó de elogios ante el piloto de Red Bull.

Fernando catalogó como ‘impresionante’ el pilotaje de Max en el Circuito Internacional de Suzuka. “Bueno, ya no nos sorprende mucho: sabemos lo bueno que es. Está haciendo algo increíble para mantener vivo el campeonato, está a solo un punto de Norris”, sostuvo el competidor asturiano.
Asimismo, Alonso no tardó en comparar la temporada actual con la del 2012, puesto que el escenario que tiene por delante el tetracampeón del mundo es similar al que el piloto de Aston Martin enfrentó hace 13 años. “Me recuerda un poco a 2012, el tercer o cuarto coche salía para mantener vivo el campeonato, espero por él que pueda hacerlo hasta la última carrera”.

Sin embargo, a pesar de la habilidad demostrada por Verstappen detrás de los volantes, el ‘14‘ considera que necesitan traer mejorar al coche. “He luchado por títulos con el tercer o cuarto coche y al final es difícil, como lo fue para mí. Espero que pueda luchar hasta el final, pero necesitan mejorar un poco más el coche. Ganó cuatro títulos así que puede luchar con un coche algo menos competitivo”.
