Donald Trump gives Shohei Ohtani star treatment during Dodgers Oval Office visit

The Los Angeles Dodgers are basking in the glow of a triumphant 2024 season, their first with Shohei Ohtani on the roster, and it couldn’t have gone much better. They racked up 98 regular-season wins – the most in Major League Baseball – before capping it off with a World Series victory over the New York Yankees in a thrilling five-game showdown. Ohtani, the three-time MVP, was a force of nature, hitting 54 home runs to break the Dodgers’ single-season record and lead the league, while also becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single year. On Monday, April 7, 2025, the Dodgers visited the White House to celebrate their championship and meet President Donald Trump, a self-proclaimed baseball fanatic who praised Ohtani for his historic 50-50 feat. With a roster this loaded, the Dodgers are already eyeing a return trip to the White House in 2026 – and their odds of repeating look pretty darn good.

A Special Moment in the Oval Office

During the visit, Ohtani received VIP treatment from President Trump, who invited the Dodgers’ star into the Oval Office for a private moment captured on video. There, Trump presented Ohtani with a medal, saying, “It’s a great honor, you’re an amazing athlete and person.” At 30 years old, Ohtani is in the prime of his career and has cemented himself as the face of baseball.

His global stardom stretches back to his native Japan, where he led the national team to the 2023 World Baseball Classic title, earning MVP honors after a victory over the United States. That international flair, paired with his jaw-dropping MLB feats, has made him a household name on both sides of the Pacific. Trump’s words weren’t just ceremonial-they echoed what fans already know: Ohtani’s a once-in-a-generation talent who’s rewriting the game’s history books.

Dodgers Eyeing a Repeat in 2025

The 2025 MLB season is still in its infancy, but the Dodgers are already looking like the team to beat. With a 9-2 record through their first 11 games, they’re off to a hot start, trailing only the San Francisco Giants (8-1) in the early going. It’s way too early to crown anyone-there are more than 150 games left-but the Dodgers are the clear favorites to win back-to-back titles, a feat not accomplished since the Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000. In the National League, the Giants, Padres, and Phillies may pose a threat, but none have the depth or star power of LA. In the American League, the Yankees and the 2023 champion Texas Rangers have also started strong, setting the stage for a potential postseason showdown.

This visit to the White House wasn’t just a celebration of the past-it was a glimpse into a future that could see the Dodgers cement a dynasty. Ohtani’s medal and Trump’s praise underscored his role as baseball’s brightest star, a player who isn’t just winning games, but redefining what’s possible on the diamond. As the Dodgers left Washington, D.C., for a series against the Nationals, their focus shifted back to the field, where they’ll look to build on their early success. If they keep it up, they could find themselves back at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue next year, hoisting another trophy and adding to their legacy.
