As the WNBA Draft approaches, all eyes are on UConn’sPaige Bueckers, widely considered the top prospect in this year’s class.
With the Dallas Wings holding the No. 1 overall pick, the assumption has been that Bueckers will be headed to North Texas.

But her recent comments, and silence, are adding fuel to rumors she may not be too keen on the idea.
Is Bueckers ghosting Dallas?
The buzz began when Front Office Sports reported Bueckers might be looking to avoid being drafted by Dallas altogether.
When asked about these rumors ahead of UConn’s Final Four matchup, she didn’t exactly shut them down.
“I don’t know,” she said.
“The reports are the reports. People write stories, and it’s whatever. Honestly, I’m not really worried about that at the moment. I’m just worried about being here, being present with the team, and trying to get better every single day. So whatever the future may hold, it’s only in God’s hands.”
That answer, paired with a recent interview on TODAY, has only added to the speculation.
When asked directly about possibly playing for the Wings, Bueckers smiled and replied, “I’m just excited for the next step in the journey, wherever that is, whatever that looks like. Just to be able to play in the WNBA-it’s a dream come true.”
Then, she pivoted: “The Minnesota Lynx dynasty was everything for me… to be able to share that experience and be a part of that is just-it’s surreal to say.”
Notably, Dallas was never mentioned by name.
While Bueckers has remained respectful and avoided any public criticism of the Wings, her omission of the team in key moments hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans or league insiders.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma added another wrinkle, telling Front Office Sports that Dallas has not reached out to him about Bueckers, a move he finds telling.
“Some [GMs] I couldn’t pick out of a lineup, and they’ll draft my players without even asking me anything,”Auriemma said.
Despite all the chatter, the Wings seem confident. General manager Curt Miller said there’s been no direct indication that Bueckers or any other top prospects are avoiding Dallas.
“They’re all really, really excited about possibly pairing with Arike,” he stated.
Still, the rumors persist.
And if Bueckers does end up in Dallas, it may mark the start of a new era, for her and a franchise looking to rebuild with lasting star power.
