Philippe trifft in der 54. Minute die Latte, Rittmüller verzieht kurz darauf knapp. Beim HSV läuft kaum etwas zusammen.
Erst in der 74. Minute keimt kurz Hoffnung auf: Selke verkürzt per Kopf nach Dompé-Flanke auf 1:2.
Dann wird es richtig bitter: Baas schiebt zum 1:3 ein (84.), Philippe trifft zum 1:4 (86.).
Selke betreibt noch Ergebnis-Verschönerung, trifft kurz vor Schluss zum 2:4-Endstand (90.+6).
Der HSV wird vermöbelt – und lässt im Aufstiegsrennen Punkte liegen.
Rein statistisch ist der HSV schon zu 100 Prozent aufgestiegen. Seit Einführung der Drei-Punkte-Regelung (1995/96) hat noch keine Mannschaft der Zweiten Bundesliga in den letzten sechs Saisonspielen einen Sechs-Punkte-Vorsprung auf den Relegationsplatz oder den ersten Nichtaufstiegsrang verspielt.

Futkeu bringt das Kleeblatt nach starker Vorarbeit von Massimo schon in der 12. Minute in Führung. Köln ist offensiv über weite Strecken zu harmlos, kommt kaum gefährlich vor das Tor. Erst kurz vor der Pause schlägt der Favorit zurück: Pauli holt einen Elfer raus, Waldschmidt verwandelt eiskalt (45.).
Nach dem Wechsel wird Köln etwas aktiver, doch Fürth bleibt gefährlich – und hat Pech, als ein Treffer von Hrgota wegen eines Fouls an Keeper Schwäbe aberkannt wird.
Ein Punkt, der Köln im Aufstiegskampf nicht richtig hilft.
