Jake Paul was once again at the center of the boxing conversation, but this time not because of his next opponent, but because of one who almost was. The influencer and American boxer revealed that he was about to face Gervonta Davis in a fight that he says was practically closed. However, the plans fell through after the unexpected draw between Davis and Lamont Roach
Paul, who witnessed that fight from the front row, confirmed that negotiations were well advanced. The idea was clear: if Davis won, the next step was to face him. But the result completely altered the landscape. “Yes, there was a lot of talk and it was in negotiations, almost ready to happen,” Paul told FightHub. “But now he has to do his rematch with Lamont, get that win, and then we can pick it up.”

Jake Paul himself acknowledged that he was not at the event just as a spectator. His presence was due to how close that clash was to materializing. With a professional record of 10 wins and one loss, Paul has become a figure with enough media traction to attract high-profile fights, even against boxers of the caliber of Davis.
“But Gervonta and I were definitely scheduled to fight,” Paul said, making it clear that, before the draw, the matchup seemed only a matter of time. However, Davis’ performance against Roach left more doubts than certainties and reordered the priorities of the champion’s entourage, who now has a rematch pending.
The fight that changed all plans
The fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach was as close as it was unexpected. Over 12 rounds, Roach managed to contain the explosive Davis, who was unable to impose his traditional aggression or get the knockout that many anticipated. The draw, surprising to most, left the door open for an immediate rematch, something Davis seems obliged to do before thinking about new opponents.
For Jake Paul, the outcome was as unexpected as it was decisive. The result forced a halt to what could have been one of the most high-profile fights of the year. “Now he has to do his rematch with Lamont,” Paul insisted, aware that Davis’ focus is entirely on settling scores before looking elsewhere.
For now, the crossover between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis is indefinitely suspended. Although Paul was willing to resume negotiations in the future, the result of the last fight forced him to freeze the project.
