Kyren Lacy’s sudden death ahead of NFL Draft
News of Lacy’s death emerged on Sunday, prompting an outpouring of emotion from those who knew him both on and off the field.
Reports have indicated that authorities are treating the case as a probable suicide.
Lacy had recently been navigating legal troubles stemming from a December car crash in Louisiana that left one person dead and two others injured.
He was facing charges including negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run.
In response to the tragic news, LSU issued a statement expressing sorrow over the former athlete’s death.
“We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy,” the school said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”
Lacy’s football career began at the University of Louisiana before transferring to LSU, where he spent his final three collegiate seasons.
In 2024, he posted his most impressive stats yet-58 receptions, 866 yards, and nine touchdowns-solidifying himself as a top receiving threat in a high-powered Tigers offense.
While Lacy had declared for the NFL Draft following the incident, his future was clouded by the aftermath of the accident and ongoing court proceedings.
His father, Kenny Lacy, took to social media in the wake of his son’s death, urging parents to talk to their children about mental health and not overlook subtle warning signs.
Fellow LSU alums like Angel Reese and Odell Beckham Jr. also shared emotional tributes, echoing a common theme: the importance of checking in on loved ones and taking mental health seriously.
Lacy’s passing serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the challenges young athletes face beyond the field, and the importance of compassion and support in times of struggle.

Matt Krohn Minnesota Twins promising rookie infielder/outfielder Luke Keaschall suffered a nondisplaced fracture in his right forearm on Friday, the club told reporters following the Twins' 11-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Keaschall suffered the injury when he was struck by a pitch from Kyle Hendricks in the first inning. Keaschall, in the lineup at DH, was able to run the bases after being hit on the arm, but he was pinch-hit for when his spot came up again in the bottom of the third. According to Twins dugout reporter Audra Martin, the club does not have a timetable for Keaschall's return.
