Nico Iamaleava’s dramatic departure from Tennessee has sent waves through the college football world-but don’t expect those waves to reach Boulder. The former five-star quarterback officially entered the transfer portal on Saturday after skipping spring practice in what many are calling an NIL-fueled standoff with the Vols.
The situation escalated quickly. Reports, including one from On3, suggest Iamaleava was pushing for a revised $4 million NIL deal before opting to sit out, a move that ultimately led Tennessee to move on from its rising star. Naturally, rumors started flying about where he might land next.

One of those rumors? That Deion Sanders and Colorado were in the mix.
“& God bless we good”: Coach Prime ends the buzz
Within hours, Sanders responded publicly-and succinctly. Retweeting a post linking the Buffaloes to Iamaleava, he wrote just two words: “Not True.” He followed up with “& God bless we Good,” making it clear that Colorado isn’t joining the chase for the polarizing QB.
And really, they don’t need to.
Even with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter set to enter the NFL Draft next month, Coach Prime has already retooled. Former Liberty QB Kaidon Salter and five-star freshman Julian Lewis are leading the next phase of the Buffaloes offense.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Colorado has been quietly building a strong culture-focused team, avoiding flashy NIL arms races in favor of stability and long-term development. That fits the tone Sanders has been setting all offseason.
Meanwhile, Iamaleava’s future is wide open. With SEC rules blocking an immediate transfer within the conference, schools in the Big 12 or Pac-12 might become options-if they’re willing to meet his hefty asking price.
But Colorado? They’re staying put. And Sanders has made it crystal clear: the Buffaloes are moving forward without the drama.
